Roden 1/32 Albatros D-I Modified to Prototype
« on: May 11, 2014, 08:20:31 AM »
Hello Everyone,

I started this kit a couple weeks ago before having good references...and now I got a few and it seems the top wing cutout needs to be much shallower and the elevators were not balanced.  Here is what I've done so far.

I also go some interior done and have made turnbuckles...but that's for another post.

Thanks for looking!

Dan

Thanks, Folks... ;)

I've been away from WWI modeling too long and this is so much fun to be rigging etc. again.  Nice to get lots of inspiration from this site.

Here's a bit of work making a new elevator that's less angular than the kit item...

Here's the kit part...

And an overall rather poor shot (but you get the idea!  ;))

Thanks for looking...Dan

Looking very good indeed Dan!  It's nice to see someone taking the time to get all of this right.  I never would have known, and I've got a couple of these in the stash. :D. Thanks for guiding us on this one.  Superior modeling at work here!

Cheers,

Bob

All,

A tiny update:  I tried making a turnbuckle.  I think it's ok, but a little clunky on the one end.  I'll work on those.

I also made the throttle and cables on the joy stick (and with the digital camera...I just noticed a break in my handle!  :-[)

Finally, I got the top wing finished and ready for paint so now the opening is closer to the prototype (which was much shallower).

That's all for tonight!  Keep on rigging...

She is taking shape nicely Dan, the interior work looks very good and your turnbuckle is fine, the wing cutout is superb and very well executed.
