Just beautiful Des, with the struts and rigging.  I really like the way the bamboo looks for the struts and booms!

What will you use for the lattice work on this one?

Regards,

Bob

Thanks Jacek and Bob, your kind words are much appreciated.

The undercarriage/tail boom is 1.6mm square brass, the top boom will be the same material and the remainder of the tail section will be bamboo. The fin/rudder and the horizontal stabiliser will be made from styrene sheet, there will not be elevators as such but warping.

Thanks Des.  Good information to have.  It sounds like that will be a very strong and rigid structure indeed!   This is a wonderful build and a beautiful scale model. ;D  Thanks for sharing your evolving techniques.  I've learned at least three or four new and useful strategies during the course of your Caudron build.  Thank you!

Regards,

Bob

  Des,
Outstanding job on her rigging to date my old friend. I need to hire the same rigging spiders as you've so artfully employed for my Voisin. As always very impressive works.

It has been brought to my attention by Aroth and Old Man that because my model has wing warping the stagger wires on the outer struts should not be there. I have done some more research and downloaded more information and realise that I have made a mistake, thanks to Aroth And Old Man for pointing me in the right direction. At least the fix will be easy, all I need to do now is find some really good drawings or photos showing the wing warping cable arrangement, this is the one area that has had me stumped.

I've got a scale drawing of the G.3 on page 148 of French Aircraft of the First World War - a great book - that appears to show the detail you need, with the cabling leaving the outermost vertical spar at the bottom wing & terminating at the equidistant between the vertical and final angled spars on the top wing.

I can send a scan to you if that' of any use?

Beautiful build by the way, there are dozens of intriguing French subjects that have been almost totally ignored at 1/32.

Thanks very much Dekenba for the offer but I did some more net surfing last night and came up with this drawing, this clears it up for me perfectly.

Kind regards,

Des.

I've sent some pics of the RAF Museum example, hopefully they will also help.

An incredible build Des - very many congratulations on a most impressive model. The amount of detail is astounding, but I especially like your mixture of materials and the ingenuity you have used in order to make best use of them. It is great to see the work of a master builder.
Many thanks for showing us.

Thanks very much LM and RAGIII for your kind comments, they are much appreciated.

I have the tail fitted in place, it is quite a sturdy assembly, this is the early style tail so there are no elevators, it will have tail warping. There will be a heap of rigging on the tail and on the tail booms, luckily I enjoy doing the rigging. I still need to add some colour to the wood bits which form the booms and the tail, this will be done prior to the rigging. Anyhow, here are some pics to show where I am up to at present, it's just about done.
