Title: Underside color ref for Luke's Spad XIII???
Post by: iwik on March 07, 2016, 10:28:44 PM
Hi y'all!
I'm looking for Gunze or Tamiya (or other acrylic brand) reference number for Frank Luke's underside color. It's not the tan color, but the odd greyish one.
Any idea?
I'm not yet at the painting process, but I'm anticipating in case I have to order the paint somewhere.
Thanks.
Iwik

My recommendation is to use Tamiya XF-19 Sky Gray.

I don't know if it's ever been determined that the underside of Luke's #26 was gray for sure. In the book "The Stand" the color profiles of three of the planes that Luke was thought to have flown were done by Alan Tolle. He is the leading expert on the French 5 color camouflage. In the book he shows Luke's #26 as having an Ecru undersides.

A good color for the ecru is Gunze's H-85 Sail Color. Hope this helps Iwik!
