Title: 1/32 Gloster Gladiator ICM
Post by: Gisbod on May 05, 2020, 04:27:35 AM
Hello all,

Continuing with my off topic theme of builds, but I am at least getting back on track! It’s got 2 wings and rigging!

The fairly new ICM Gladiator (great subject choice). It’s a simple affair so far, nice mouldings (although the fuselage access panels look overly raised, not sure if that’s right?), great fit, low parts count but that’s not a criticism. It’s a pleasure to have a simple build for a change.

The seat belts are out of the spares box, mid war but they look similar enough for my standards. No real issues so far (tempting fate).

I‘ll follow this one closely. Since betraying WW1 with my ICM I-16, I am thinking about purchasing that one... or the upcoming ICM Fiat CR. 42... Still not decided. I am keen on seeing your wizardry on this one!

This is a brilliant looking build, great job. I hope you enjoy it going forward.
I see you are building the Mk.1 box?

I don't have one yet but would like to acquire one and do it as Pattles Mk.1 with the 2 bladed prop.

Following this one closely Guy. I also have the ICM Gladiator and its simplicity is very appealing. However I'm working on an Inpact ( yes it's that old!) Gladiator right now plus a Wingnuts MvR Albatros and stunning Model Cellar MvR figure so the model bench is crowded.... and last night I dropped a glue bottle on the tiled floor and the room smells like a styrene addict's drug house!

So your Gladiator is a calming influence, so many thanks for that!

Thanks all,

Long time no see Ryan!

Coming along as it feels like I’m building an Airfix 1/72 starter kit  :)

One slight drawback is a chunk of plastic to glue to the underside fuselage, I suppose it’s there for a Sea Gladiator boxing? I hate these as I find them almost impossible to blend in.

Got the lower wings on, thinking about painting, then thought - it’s all the same colour, why not put on the top wing too...

Then I thought, heck, let’s get the undercarriage on too...

Then I thought, heck, why not rig it?

(https://i.postimg.cc/3RBz01jk/5-A11-A7-E2-FF86-4984-984-F-738-ECE027640.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/VrJK3jVw)

I considering doing the decals but thought this was a bit too much  ;D

It’s a pleasure doing wings and rigging before painting - I usually paint it beautifully only to cover it in glue... obviously, there are a limited amount of aircraft this would work for!

I’m having fun anyway.

Wow, interesting approach... or just crazy?!  ;D

With such an easy kit, it's good that you might get a little bit of a challenge with the markings...

Just crazy or Lazy Fredrik!

Although, I think it’s turned out as well as I could have hoped for. The rigging looks just like steel wire now!

I think I’m only ever going to make silver biplanes again  ;D

I’m as far as I can go now, just waiting on the Swedish Postage service for the markings masks, may be a week or two break...

Not exactly fast Fredrik! Arrived here Saturday, but better late than never!

Painted her up yesterday and very pleased with the masks.

I personally think rigging then painting worked really well, to me it looks like stainless steel! Would definitely recommend to do this if you’re thinking of doing one.

Anyway, here she is..

Thanks,

Guy

That is really lovely, Guy.  The paint looks so crisp and clean, and the marking are just right.  Beautiful model of an interesting aircraft.  How did the kit go together, overall?  I have one in the stash.  Very well done.

Best regards,

Bob

Hi Bob,

To be honest, it’s easy peasy. Really simple, small parts count, great fit  ;D

You should enjoy it.

Hi Guy!
First - what a beautiful aircraft! I think you've nailed it when it comes to the choice of markings and the colours! Also very skillful use of the masks. I'm quite tempted to get one for myself!

Second - it's interesting that it took longer for my letter to get to you than it took for Bob the Buckleman's letter to get to me. I imagine that they pretty much must have taken the same route but in opposite directions. So what postal service was actually slower and where was it slower?! I'm not sure I can live with the uncertainty! 😬😃

Another beauty Guy, and in record time. The finish is superb and the markings as well; a shift in subjects is looking good on you!

Yes Fredrik,

It’s a mystery! I can’t really see why it should take so long, perhaps put a tracking device in the next one!  ;D

Thanks Lance, yep, I’m quite enjoying my foray into other areas tbh.

Another wow! Gisbod, your speed and quality index is impressive, since both are on highest level. And ICM seems to create great kits these days. The Benz Motorwagen I built recently was also a impressive kit.
Your paint work with the matt metal finish looks perfect for this bird.

Cheers,
Frank
