It was a very hard choice on picking something from the stash for the tribute on Des's memories . So I order myself WNW Halbie late version . There was a few issues , but Dave came through and got things shorted and my kit is on the way .
I wanted something very special and Copper States kit won and is my entry .
-
and the goodies in side the box
-
Looking forward to this as I have the same kit and I'm already following all the builds - ruthlessly seeking hints and tips...
Cheers
Alistair

excellent choice T. I know you will do it well!

Looking forward to watching this one come together, T! It's a great kit. You're gonna love it!

It will be lovely to see this take shape! A good choice and very topical!
Regards,
Marc
-
Thanks guys :)
I made a start by cutting the bags open and smelling the plastic ! Then it was droll over the parts for bit before I started cutting the wing parts free and the engine . Top wing is glued up and drying making this easy for the rest of the clean up . Clean up on engine is next followed by paint .
-
Top wing
Terri

Good start T. I guess I better finish mine so I can concentrate on yours 8)
RAGIII

hey Terri!
it seems we are off a very similar path... ;) it will be fun!
I hope to “steall from you some more tips as I did back in the past!

Great subject Terri, looking forward to more of your progress.

Nice start Terri,
I’m keen to see how these kits turn out...
Guy
-
Rick , Edo , Juan and Guy . Thanks for dropping by with encouragement :)
Edo , steal away !
Well today was rather productive in front of the bench . I put on some Heldmaschine and rock out one would say . Engine halves are join and the cylinder tops in place with rest of the parts cleaned up and black based for the start of the metal painting . Cowl has been black based as well . This will need a few days to fully dry . If not the Vallejo metal paint will from cracks later on . Learn't my lesson using these paints the first time , will not make it again . All the cockpit parts ( I think ) are freed and waiting clean up while the black basing dries .

Good Choice Terri, My favourite aircraft!
-
This is taking great shape, Terri. I completely agree about letting the black undercoat dry completely... been there, done that, brought out the paint stripper...! Regards, Marc
-
Great start!!
Steve
-
Thanks for following along guys :)
Progress is coming along buy it is taking me a bit longer then what I was figuring on . Having to wear glass now it has been a learning curve on getting my eyes to adjust
The parts have their colour coats on with detailing painting to start next . Wooden areas are ready to go and the shine will be toned down once the weathering and final sealant coats are on . Engine is also set for weathering , working on the spark leads now but not pictured yet .

Thanks guys for the positive comments :) I still doing the detail painting and hoping to have it finished this weekend depending if my cold will work with me instead of against me .
Terri

Very nice work Terri, following closely.
Mark

Good progress Terri!, I like the color of the wood.

Finished this weekend? that would be very ambitious for me!
You are making good progress and the results are great.
I will be following along as I am interested in this kit.

Great work Terri, hope you feel better and get some modeling time in.

Excellent progress and a great engine there, Terri! I'm enjoying this lovely kit... Marc

Terri,
Outstanding progress my old friend. Keep up the excellence!

Great job so far.
I know what you mean about having to adjust to wearing glasses. Since I got back into the hobby a year or two back, I have been trying to adjust to my changing eyesight. It's been a real challenge.
Bill

Hi Terri,
Nice work so far.
The engine and cowl turned out nice as well.
I must admit I tend to use 'Alclad' black base then Duraluminium for metal work, which I find gives a nice finish, especially for adding chipping effects etc.
I've not started my CSM Nieuport yet, but seeing yours, Buds and others I must start it soon,
Mike
-
Thanks guys for dropping by and having a peek :) It's amazing what being drugged up on cold meds will lead someone ...
I did get some bench time over the weekend between many , many naps ! Almost finished up with the detail painting , few more bits here and there . Weathering for the most part is finished and just neat seal it all in now .

Very pretty interior!
Andreas
-
Glad you guys like how my wood turned out . I'm a little disappointed in the darker wood , but it is what it is and I do hope a flat coat will bring it into more perspective . Weekend is among me once more and feeling 100 times better will have more progress over the weekend .
Terri
-
Great paintwork, can't wait to see these put together.
Ciao
Giuseppe

Excellent work Terri, I really like how you painted that firewall. Looking forward to more.
Mark
-
Thank-you Giuseppe and Mark :)
Mark , I as well really like how the firewall turned out . Sad that once the engine and cowl are in place the detail is mostly hidden . This kit has beautiful detail and I'm really enjoying the build :)
Terri

Looks very nice Terri,
Good work!
Guy

Thanks Guy :)
Terri

Turned out to be a busy weekend for me in front of the bench . Made a fare bit of progress , but I still have work to do in the cockpit before I can call this part of assembly finished . Rear fuselage parts got glued up as well and ready for a tiny bit of putty and sanding . This is almost a dame near perfect fit .

I really like the detail painting of this part.

Looks super Terri. I really like the richness of the wood tones. Watching with great interest.

Nice T! You are past the challenging parts now and ready to move on to final assembly and painting. I am sure you will WoW all of us!
RAGIII
-
I am catching up Terri because I have been away (again) and cannot keep up with everyone's build here. Your cockpit interior is truly super - such detail and in my opinion, the correct colours for the wood and metal. This is shaping up to be a truly great build.
Stephen.
-
Hey guys , thanks a bunch for the positive comments , you guys are the best ! :)
Ken , it is busy a pit with details , which is right up my alley ;)
I tell you Ryan , it was not easy painting that happy face .... ;)
James , even though I'm not over happy with the wood tones your renforcement on it weights lots on me . Thanks :)
Rick , I will try my best to WoW you guys with few mistakes as possible :)
Stephen , like James has mention in his post as well as others on the wood tones . Danke Schon ! :)
Once again , that you all !

Made a start on the side panels with a base coat of Tamiya wooden deck . This will be left to dry for 24 hours then I can start cutting stripes of masking tape to mask individual plankes ...
Terri

Beautifully painted and well assembled T. Looking fantastic!!
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick :)
Terri
-
I finally got the engine done . Kept getting side tracked with other kit parts seeking attention ;) Also made start on the panels using art pencil with two different colours alternating between planks then blending it together a bit with a q-tip and that is as far as I have gotten .

Wow, Terri! That is a fine looking Nieuport. You can tell you like this machine! ;)

Hi guys , thank-you very much for the king comments and the ongoing encouragement 8)
Dan , the N-16 and 17 are my favorite French fighters and so far this build is nothing but smiles ! :)
Today's step was to start airbrushing the clear layers . I first thinned down some Tamiya smoke for oil staining along the bottom of the panels and up around the hatches , this was followed by many layers of Tamiya clear yellow . Struts and wind screen parts are also painted up as well . Metal bands on the struts still need to painted ...and the the weathering can begin .
-
:)
Terri
-
Very tasty, T! Very tasty, indeed!
Cheers,
Bud
-
I really like those golden wood tones. Cheers Matt
-
Thank-you Bud and Matt :) Bud , it's not for eating no matter how tasty it looks ;) Matt , the golden tone will be toned down bit more after weathering and I'm hoping that it all blends in together .
Terri
-
I really like the staining effect T. Well done!
RAGIII

Very nice effects!!
Steve

Excellent work so far, Terri, pure joy to follow.

Hi Guys ! Hey , thanks a bunch 8)
Made a bit more progress over the weekend , okay a fair bit of progress actual . Side panels are done , same as the prop . Land gearing and wheels are well under way with weathering still to follow . Guns are done for the most part as well as the rudder which still needs the second round of decals . All other bits are painted/weathered or waiting weathering until assembled . I tried to get the best fit possible with out the use of to much filler . Not show is the upper decking I painted the underside the shade as the framing and flooring . Tail planes is fixed place and tail skid painted up which still needs a bit more work .

which colors and techniques did you use?

You've made a lot of progress. It looks great. I like the wood panelling on the fuse sides.

Looking awesome T! The Lewis and Vickers are very well done! You are really progressing n this one!
RAGIII

Terri,
Clean, precise work, well done.

The details on those machine guns is truly amazing. The colours which you have used to emphasise details are super - in fact the whole model is super! Looking forward to seeing tis one finished.
Stephen.

Glad that you guys are enjoying the build just as much as I'm . :) Thanks for your support ! Was going to start airbrushing the primer for the fuselage and top wing , but it's raining right now , nothing like those spring showers to freshen things up and hamper my plans . Should be able to start tomorrow or the next day ...maybe :'(
Kalt , I did the side panels in this order .
1. base primer Tamiya wooden deck tan . Let this dry for at least 12 hours .
2. I used two different shades of artist pencil crayons alternating between the two shade skipping the odd space so it didn't look uniforum .
3. I then used a q-tip and rub the whole surface in circle .
4. I thinned Tamiya smoke and sprayed that along the wing root area and inspection hatches until I was pleased with the effect . Then I made one pass along all the edges of the panels .
5. Next many , many thin coats of tamiya clear yellow was built up . Set side for 24 hours to dry .
6. A wash was then applied using Flory Models line ( brown ) and let this dry . Wipe off the excess
7. This was all sealed with Testors dull coat to dull it and blend it all together .
Terri
-
Success was had today ! By the end of the day the weather started to behave and was able to do a bit of airbrushing . Prime coat is on :) Will let this dry for 24 hours , then comes the Vallejo Metal coat - white aluminum . Also got a wash on the wheels and undercarriage . Still need to choose a scheme and find rigging manitrail , wasn't able to get easyline .
What size of mono line are you guys using ? I have 0.23mm which is way to big ! In the cockpit I used smoke thread and stretched spuce and that didn't go very well for me .
-
:)

Thanks Terri!, I will try to use your technique
-
"What size of mono line are you guys using ?"
I use 0.005" (0.127 mm) for most rigging, which is 0.16" in full scale, and 0.007" (0.178 mm) sometimes.
-
Your welcome Kalt :) Thanks Ken , this gives me something to go by now .
Got paint ? ..... Yup !

excellent work, Terri

Thanks guys :) I'm off to the bench to start clear coating for decals , which I hope to start applying them tomorrow . More to follow very soon ......
Terri
-
Okay , decals are on and most of the detail painting is done . Will be able to start the weathering this afternoon and start making turnbuckles .
I did have an issue with the 7 on the right side of the fuselage and will need to touch this up with paint .

Looking good, Terri.
For me, models always start to come alive when decals/markings are added, even if they are minimal.

well done terri!
i like the shade you gave to the aluminium.... what did you use?
ciao
edo

I have the very same question of Edo: what paint brand did you use for the aluminium?
the tone is looking like the real one
-
Very brautiful progress here. I also like the aluminum tone.
Andreas
-
Hi guys , thanks for following along . It's great encouragement :)
Edo and Ermeio . For the alum I used Vallejo Metal Coat white Alum .
Here is my progress over the weekend . Weather is done and every thing is seal up . Just assembly and rigging left do to . I started making the turn buckles , but still have a few more to make up .

Terri, your Weathering is looking great (along with the rest I might add).
-
Thank-you Juan for the kind comment :)
Terri
-
That is truly lovely. I too like the subtle weathering. Neat look on the cable openings in the fuse.
Well done.
Dan
-
Wonderful progress! I also love the way you did the weathering.
Andreas
-
Lovely work T. I Like the subtle weathering a lot!
RAGIII
-
Thank-you guys !
I didn't want to over do it with the weathering and I didn't highlight the rib tapes either . I used a grey wash inand some areas a rub of pastels with a light sand just on the stitching . Worked out rather well ;D
Terri , who is still making turnbuckles
-
I've been missing a few updates, this is coming beautiful. I really like your metalised painting and these livery and weathering are giving real life to your Nieuport.
Ciao
Giuseppe
-
Truly lovely progress, Terri. Fine job on silver dope, decalling and weathering.
-
Thanks guys 8)
Terri , yup , still making turnbuckles ....
-
What a beautiful work on this Terri! I enjoyed each step you made so far.
Antonio
-
Thanks Antonio :)
Was able to finishing off making the turnbuckles and fixed them in place . I must say that this was a new challenge having to wear glass , but I pulled it off with a little frustration ( almost binned it :-X ) .
Everything is ready to go for the rigging now . I glued the inter struts to the wing instead of the lower wing which is called out in the instructions . I found that it lined up better and less gluing points in the end . I haven't glued to the wing , engine , cowl and prop yet . They are fitting in place for the photos .
Next up-date I should have this wrapped up ....
-
:) update starts on page 10
-
:)
-
Looks Fantastic with the upper wing mounted T. I really like your prop also!
RAGIII
-
Thanks Rick :)
Terri
-
Didn't quite get the rigging done , but the main wings are rigged and same as the undercarriage . Still have the tail plane and rudder which will be tackled over the week . The instructions called for 0.1mm for the main rigging so I used smoked mono sewing thread which is 0.1mm .

:)

Terri,
Your smiley face is an understatement. I'd try :o or ;D next time.
Neat job!
Dan

beautiful! really beautyful!

Your rigging an buckles are coming along nicely T !
RAGIII

Thanks a lot guys :)
Dan , will try my best to use a different moji ;)
Terri
-
Very nice finishing and rigging.
Ciao
Giuseppe
-
Thanks G !
Terri
-
Okay , I would have any up-date if it was a pleasant one . Did not have success in front of the bench last night . Start to rig the controls and the line I was using ...not so good . It is braided line and would not pull through the eyelets . Kept snagging and I ended up ruining the buckles on the rudder and two on the tail plane . Damaged the paint on the fuselage . I'm leaving this sit for awhile before I really mess it up .
Terri
-
Ouch, Terri! Take a break and you'll get it done.
Can't wait to see it back in the saddle...Dan
-
Sorry to hear of your difficulty with the tail rigging T :( On the plus side I know you will beat the problem after you walk away for a while. Hopefully not long ;)
RAGIII
-
Been there many times Terry, you will sort it out.
Ryan
-
Im just catching up and saw all the success. The 17 looks great!! Stepping away for a bit then re evaluating the problem areas is a good idea.
Steve
-
Thank-you so much for the support guys . I finally went and sat done in front of the bench with a new set of eyes today . Turnbuckles are an easy fix . The paint I will need to think about this . Vallejo Metal coats don't sand well at all . It will make it even worse then what it is now . Support strut of the lower tail also needs attention as well . I will let this sit for a few days before I start .
-
:'(
-
Looks like something you will be able to handle with no real problem T. If worst comes to worst throw some dirt over that small glitch in the paint :-X
RAGIII
-
Another lovely noop - I’m sure once she’s finished you won’t even be able to see these minor things! However we have all been there so understand the frustration at these small setbacks. Cheers Matt
-
Just as I thought you were heading for a super finish.... ugh! Yes we have all been there Terri - but remember that what we see as a major flaw on our models others barely notice -(even if they see it). Like the others I am completely confident that you will overcome this problem and will finish with another super model.
Stephen.
-
Should be fixable, Terri. Just take your time and think things through.
-
Thanks a bunch guys for your support :)
Well I was working on another project the N-17 was staring me at calling me , taunting ...just wouldn't leave me alone . So I started with the repairs ....
-
And under a fresh coat of paint ....
-
With the ending results ...she is finished ! Will have better pic's later once the sun comes up ;)

Terri

Excellent repairs and it Looks Awesome T! I am looking forward to the final shots.
RAGIII

Great bounce back Terri, she looks great.
