Title: Roden 1/32 Albatros D.III OAW
Post by: Lozenge on June 12, 2019, 07:15:33 PM
Hello Colleagues...

As I had had too much stress and workload I got a time out on the stroke unit. And to look what is left in my right hand I will start with the well known Roden kit of the Albatros D.III Ostdeutsche Albatoswerke. The kit started its career in 2006 as the Albatross D.III and was refurbished by a new box and decals in 2008 - upgrated to the OAW-version. Salesmate says: "New parts" - does this includes other sprues, too?

I do not keep in mind what are the detailled differences betwen the Johannisthal and OAW versions. Perhaps you can help me.
I want to build my Rise of Flight Albatros with it straw yellow fuselage light brown overpainted and the greengrey - green - venetia red top surfaces and light blue bottoms.

So this is the plan for tomorrow afternoon when I'm back from my doctor. So I have a single and more kit in the shelf. :o

I think I can jump over the kit review?
Are there any special intrests or questions? Any wishes what to show in this build?

Sorry to hear of your Health issues and I hope you are well on your way to recovery! As for the "New" kit parts they are the fuselage halves(updated to match the OAW forward fuselage panels and rectangular foot step), the upper wing( radiator moved to the right of center), and a new axle with airfoil shape. Post as many photos of your construction as you like and good luck on your build!

In addition, the new (OAW) parts include the rounded D.V-style rudder, and longer rear lower wing/fuselage fairings. It appears Roden really did their homework on this one, as the data-table decal accurately reflects the OAW machine's lighter (660 Kg) empty weight!

Yep, I totally forgot to mention the rudder and fairings  :-[

:o uiuiuiui... I wasn't aware the hoole fuselage was exchanged behind the two words "new part". So I'll have the possibility to stay with my OAWversion and build them as close in touch to the pattern/idol as possible.

Because there it may be better to look for the RoF details - there is an "Johannisthal mod" of 2011 - changing the skin and adding several beautiful details (as production metal plates to the lower wing.) But I stay with  my original RoF and do build the OAWversion straight away.
"Don't overdo it - look for a start not any championship award!" - women can be so smart. (Smarter than they are constructed for... duck&cover)
Tomorrow I'll know more as I am awaiting my demissions papers fromthe hospital this evening.

Posting as many pictures as I like is bestly done over some sharing link, isn't it? Heres capacity of not 200kB doesn't work sufficiently with my smartphone.

Thanks for all your help and interest!

I recommend Imgur for image sharing. Really easy to use and best of all FREE!

Cheers

Something went wrong in my brain...

The diffrences to the Roden kit parts were too obvious!
 I ordered the Mercedes D.III a details?
Yes. They are for a D.III biplan!? Yes! ...but not for the Albatros one - it's for the Pfalz's !!! :o

So I have to start a new order for the Mercedes D.III engine detailing set. And I do have to tell my wife now I  am forced by some extraterrestrial airial compulsion to buy the Pfalz D.III kit of WNW...
...ääääh Roden ;)

*run for cover*

So "Progress" is still the name if our vacuum cleaner...

The aftermarket parts look great. I will have to keep them in mind.
