Well, this is what I'm going with for the centerpiece of my diorama. Not sure what the story will be, but it'll have to be a big one!

Excellent Mark, I have this same kit in my stash so I will be looking forward to seeing your build.

Hey!
This a sweet choice! I was considering it myself, so I'll watch you with great interest!

A very interesting subject - and I bet the diorama that you build around it will be a show stopper.

I couldn't agree more Stephen! Mark the gun will be a great focal point. I look forward
to following the build.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Working on the first few steps:

The spade (for lack of a better term) is to the left and the beginnings of the main supports are to the right in the photo. The shell hoist and crank mechanism are in pieces in the middle. I'm already saving my pennies for the paint it will take to finish this beast.

Great to see you making a start with this build Mark, looking at what you have done so far shows it is certainly a huge kit.

Some photos of my progress. You can see the gearing on the spade, the cable drum for the ammunition hoist, and the supports for one of the many platforms.

That is incredibly detailed: I had no idea that such detail could be achieved on modern kits…..which just shows how out of date I am!
This is going to be stupendous when it is finished - not to say big too!!
Stephen.

Got it also in my stash. So I will be watching carefully. I thing it is a kit with a big fun potential because there are no PE parts.

Looking fantastic Mark, and huge, I didn't realise that this kit was so highly detailed.

Hey Mark!
good progress here!
Can the spade be repositioned once assembled, or do you have to choose in advance the positioning of the gun mount ?
ciao

Edo, the gearing for the spade is not workable. There's a series of four very small locating detents on the spade and four corresponding very small nubs on the carriage for locating purposes. It would be a simple matter to sand these off and to reposition the spade off-center but once it's fixed into position, that's it. Hope that helps.

Great big fat Bertha! Very nice start. Do you already have an idea for a diorama?

Borsos,
Several ideas floating around. It's all going to depend on which figures and appropriate accessories I can get a hold of :)
