Just wondering if there's a definitive 'best' WW1 kit out there bigger than 1/32? I realise they're all going to be a bit basic, but the best blank canvas for detailing up/ improving?
Merit/ Revell etc?
Thanks
Guy

The old Revell 1/28 SPAD, Camel and Dr-I are by far better than the Merit kits. Oher than the top Wing and fuselage taper on the 1/28 D VII ( which is easily correctable) is the only one left in a larger than 132 , even it is getting hard to find .

Any Hasegawa 1/8 scale kit (Camel, SE5a & Fokker Dr.I) if you can find/afford it.

Yeah, my vote would be for the Hasegawa 1/8 SE5a, followed by the Camel and the Triplane, if you can find/afford. Seem to remember they rereleased some or all in 1/16?.
The Merit SE5a is pretty good, with a few areas needing some work, although you'd ditch the daft PE rigging. Haven't got the other two but the Clerget engine in the Dr1 is a bit limiting!
The old Revells are a bit clunky but astonishingly good for early sixties designs, can be made into nice models with a bit of work.
PS just checked, the 1/16 Hasegawa Camel is all plastic, not part wood like the 1/8 one. Supposed to be "Museum Quality" FWIW!
Couple of em on sale on eBay UK at the moment from £170.

My choice would be the Hasegawa 1:8 scale range, have a look here Guy, still available but quite expensive. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/hasegawa-1-8

Thanks chaps,
I was thinking of a £20 Revell kit but now you've got me drooling over a $1000 one :P
They are super aren't they? Any build logs been done?

Crikey, that's incredible Des :o

I'd have to respond that the 1/8 Hase kits are prolly the best. Next, some of the 1/16th kits. This just based on my guess of the number of hours one could spend really tuning up a given kit.

i have a vintage 1/8 DR. 1 on offer (box from 1985)
