Title: Question about making clear doped linen rib tapes
Post by: Tim Mixon on March 14, 2023, 04:00:52 AM
I need to make 1/72 clear doped linen rib tapes. I know of no commercial product available.  Does anyone have experience in spraying paint over either clear or white decal sheet then cutting the ribs in strips?  How do you prevent the paint from chipping?
Thank you,
Tim

I think that it would be much easier to mask and paint them. Having said that, I must disclose that I consider waterslide decals to be second only to money as a source of evil.

That’s a good idea. I’ve never used Aviattic decals. Are the white based decals still translucent?  I don’t want the underlying lozenge to show through.

Ha ha! I agree Rob.  But masking over lozenge decal is just too risky for me.  And no way am I masking and painting my own lozenge!
Thanks,
Tim

Ian,
I did look at the site. I don’t see any rib tapes included. Are on a separate sheet?

Hi Tim,
Aviattic 'white' backed decals are not transparent, only the 'clear' backed decals are.
If you apply 'clear' backed decals as rib tapes, the decal below will show through, which changes the colour of the rib tapes and makes them dark,
