I've made an attempt at Masking and spraying a shadow effect on the flying surfaces. The vertical ribs are the only detail moulded onto the top and bottom of the upper and lower wings so I've checked my references and masked the surfaces accordingly. With advise from Des I've done a bit of experimenting with different colors until I came up with an effect I'm happy with and this is the result. It does look dark in the photos but in the flesh it looks quite effective. What I'd like to know is your  honest thoughts on the result. It's probably to late to change now as the wings are attached to the nacelle but id still like to know what you think?

Wings attached and rigging started and now looking like an Aeroplane ;D! Upper wing bracket details and pulleys etc still need to be painted and will be done free hand as things progress. Along way to go but I'll get there.

The wings look fantastic Sean - I take it you had no problem removing the masking from the roundel decals?

Ian Thanks Ian no chance of lifting the Decals I use a really good quality self leveling ( not future) floor polish for my clear coats. Dries with a very nice durable super thin semi sheen.
Red Baron Thanks for your honesty this is an Area I'm still experimenting in hence the reason I asked. I think for now I'm happy to go with "representation" over complete "realisim".
If I were trying to apply the effect to a CDL finish I don't think I would have had any problem but trying to achieve this effect over black was a little difficult.

Hi Sean,
Really nice progress and the spar and rib effects look really nice.
You are really shifting along with this build. Keep up the superb work.

Best Regards,
Keith

Tricking the eye with black tones is difficult but I think you have achieved it. Like you say, in the flesh the effect works.

Keith Thanks very much Keith ! I've been home on holidays for 2 weeks so I've had plenty of time to work on her. Everything else has suffered though!
Steve Thankyou also I do think it looks good. As you say it is hard to achive realistic tones but it looks effective. I haven't applied the colors on the heavy side just very subtley.
Next update will be the rigged upper and lower main wings.

Sean,
Brilliantly done, I've been following along particularly to glean some hints on working with black color schemes. I believe you've "nailed it" on this subject and it will help me a lot with my DV build. As for the rigging, as I said on the other Fee Thread, "takes a much braver soul then I to tackle a Fee"!!
Cheers,
Lance

   Sean,
You should give your rigging spiders a bonus for such awesome work my friend. Outstanding project from the beginning to the present.
