This is my WnW SE.5a model, I detailed the engine and left it exposed.

That radiator looks incredible Des. You're a master with Mr. Color my friend.
Cheers,
Chris
-
Thanks Chris, but the radiator is real brass, I used very thin sheet brass and formed it to shape around the plastic kit radiator.

Truly stunning SE, Des. Absolutely flawless. That engine deserves full exposure. When I first saw your SE, I decided I had to build one, ordered the Roden 1/48 kits, started one, then abandoned her for another project. Thanks for bringing this one back out and giving me the motivaton I need to get back on mine.
Cheers,
Bud
-
That scale brass work is just so awesome. Really incredible.
-
Beautiful SE.5a Des, great work.
Andrew
-
Des,
Nice to see this, perfect timing as I just ordered another from WNW last night. My last was "chopped/converted" to McCudden's 4891 with the modified cockpit enclosure and LVG Spinner on a four blade prop; I like the kit so much (and fear a SOLD OUT notice soon) that I ordered a second. I plan on a basic Hisso config, maybe Rhys David's at 56 Sqn as I have the Pheon and Encore Sheets.
Beautiful Model as always. I have to add that this "Show Me Your..........." category is a wonderful idea; gives everyone an opportunity to showcase their efforts and I certainly enjoy all of the submissions, hopefully others do as well. Most important, it show-cases a lot of the incredible talent resident here and not only provides inspiration for the viewer but also reinforcement for the builder. I'm very proud and pleased to be a member of this Site.
Cheers,
Lance
-
Lovely work Des :)
I assume the idea here is to post build links, so here is mine:

Des and Brad,
Awesome SE5a project my old friends. Des this "Show Us Your .... was an excellent idea.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
This SE holds a special place in my heart, Brad. It was from this very model that I learned how to make realistic clear pulley inspection panels using 2 part epoxy. Brilliant stuff, mate. As with all your models, this one is truly extraordinary.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Beautiful work Brad, and your build log is fantastic for anyone wanting to build this model.
Gregory, the idea for the "Show us yours" came from Carpo, full credit goes to Paul.
Des.
-
All,
I guess a SE.5 could fit in here as well. Although it's totally outclassed by Des and Brads I present my little SE.5 project from way back. She's the result of a kitbash between the Monogram and Lindberg kit converted to an SE.5 configuration.

Thanks for taking a look at my old SE.5 project my friends. As always any and all comments are welcomed and much appreciated.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Gregory, I was always impressed with this one. A courageous bashing resulting in the most convincing SE5 I've ever seen. Brilliant.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Gregory,
Great work - was it difficult combining two different kits together, mate?
Best regards
Dave
-
All,
I'll add my two penny's worth (especially when comparing against the brilliant builds by Des and Brad) then and include my build of the 1/72 scale Revell SE5a recently completed as part of this forum's 'old kit group build'.

Dave ,
As best I recall the project wasn't too difficult but there was a lot of surgery to perform on the wings and the fuselage. At the time and I guess it still was the only way I could build a SE.5 for my collection. I had the idea to do this project again sometime ago but in 1/32 scale . I have two WNW SE.5a's and a Roden kit as well to convert plus much more reference material on the type. Just never got around to it.
Highest Regards,

I hope you do find a way to get to the 1/32 scale SE.5; that would be a fun build to watch I think.
-
Absolutely beautiful SE5as! Congratulations to all the builders!
-
Nice SE5's guys. Gregory, great job on two cantankerous kits. Turned out great. Des, your brass work and the engine is truly outstanding. Brad, another great kit and Dave, your 1/72nd old kit is truly noteworthy. I post mine here. Like Lance said, this is a great part of the forum, I am enjoying seeing all the great models by the modelers on this forum. All are truly great models by skilled modelers.
This is the result of some ruined parts and extras from another WNW SE5. I don't remember the squadron or pilot, but I like the markings and am happy with the results. I would do another one and may before WNW sells out of the kit.

Beautiful examples of the SE.5 everyone. The talent shown here is
absolutely wonderful. Thank you for sharing!

Hello Des, Brad, Gregory, Dave and Mark,
Thank you for posting your magnificent builds here. Des your build log was an exceptional one and helped me a lot in building mine. Unfortunately I failed in installing the upper wing. But a few days ago I worked a bit on it and probably I will continue my log. I still think the SE5a is one of the most beautiful aircrafts produced during the war. You all made great builds. Many congratulations!
Kind regards
Patrick

Scale aside... lovely builds guys, congrats.

Again, probably seen here elsewhere in the past however in the spirit of sharing.....

Mark and Lance, two outstanding models of the SE.5a, both are built by very talented modelers which shows in the stunning examples displayed here, well done guys.
And to Brad, Gregory and Dave who posted their models earlier, brilliant models, some beautiful models being shown here.

Thanks Des and Mark.
Mark, is this the one you had put back in the box several times? If so, what a recovery!

Hi Lance: Yes it is. I did a build log called the "Phoenix". Did things a lot different the second time around. It was a fun build.
Thanks Lance
Mark

Hi Lance,
The only SE5a I didn't see yet. Remarkable finish, your rigging is fabulous. Many congratulations!

Mark I remember your build log and it was very inspiring to me.

Lance you have done a superb SE.5. They don't get much better!
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Lance,
Beautiful SE! I have the Encore Version of the Roden kit with all of the resin and PE. Still thinking about buying the WNW kit to simplify my life! Your build is great, thanks for posting.

Dave, Mark and Lance! What lovely SE's you fellas has produced! Lance, I plan on doing McCudden's ship in 1/48 scale. I think it's so interesting and unique with the narrow cord elevators, short exhaust stack, four bladded prop with the LVG spinner and McCudden's custom cockpit opening. That last item presents a challenge for me since the Roden kit doesn't provide that option. Still trying to figure out how to do that one. Anyway, I digress. Brilliant work, gents!
Cheers,
Bud

Great SE.5as, Mark and Lance!

Thanks Lance. I guess I was one of the few reviewers who tried to add a little humor to my mishaps and ( freely admitted) my mistakes :D I am glad you took the time to read the build article! I was much more patient when dealing with a kit SUPPLIED by someone else for review!

Thanks Dave, as always I appreciate the comments! As for the fit I said in the review article that the fit was great so I guess I would have to say it was very good for a Roden kit. As far as I recall the kit presented no real build issues not mentioned in the article. Compared to the 1/32nd I think it was a breeze ;D
