For what it's worth, here's a closer look at the wing tripod on Achim Engels' replica:

Man there's no end of the hurdles on this kit!! Watching with interest - and a little trepidation.....

Steve

Yes there are some Hurdles involved. Most of them fall into the "Low" Hurdle race like getting the parts cleaned up, fitting the framework, sprucing up the interior, and assembling the fuselage. Takes work but not that difficult. It is the Landing gear assembly and wing strut/ wing attachment that are in the "High" Hurdle realm  ::)

Thanks Tony! One can't have too many references. I went to Achims site and saw some good stuff for my next EV  :o

Lance and all,
Here is a photo pulled from a net search. As always if this violates any ones copyright I will happily remove the photo

I was just looking at this photo to confirm something that I thought was correct. The black "Line/stripe" at the rear of the cwling looks to be the retaining strap... perhaps painted black?

Hello Rick,

The cowling is secured by a cable, not a strap, you can see its end against the black lower portion of the cowling in James' photo. I believe that the black painted strip lies behind the cowling, at the junction with the fuselage. On the kit this area is represented by the thick plastic firewall part.

At least that was my interpretation when I designed the decals. The black strip is provided as a black line decal - probably easier to cut into two pieces for ease of application.

Rowan

PS. It is worth noting that the Vintage Aviator got the tail markings wrong - unusual for them. Compare with the Jasta 6 Lineup photo - it was the same stripe configuration for Jasta 6's Dr.Is.

Are these of any use? I'm not sure what resolution they go to as I took them with my cellphone:

Thanks for the response Rowan. I was going to use the PE part Eduard provided for the Encore Triplane but your response and the photos have changed my mind. I will use your decal stripes as directions indicate!

Just to show I haven't abandoned this build. I attached the elevator this weekend: I need to do some touch up on the white paint portion of the stripes from my original painting vs decals.

Thanks for the comment Juan.

I hope to do some work on this one this weekend. I have been looking at photos and searching the net for further info. Looking through my photos taken off of the Aerodrome and other sites I came up with these. I remember that the wing being tested to destruction photos is what convinced me of the Multi color theory in the first place. Looking closely one can see that this is the undersurface and there are for whatever reason 2 colors( grey shades), evident. I will therefore stick to the Conjectural scheme offered by Rowan of Pheon. Obviously this in NO WAY proves that ALL EV/DVIII wings were Multi colored!

I also pulled this photo from the web. It shows a "Patch" that looks to me to be an access panel as seen on Jasta 6 DR1 fighters.

As always if these photos violate anyones copyright I will be happy to remove them.
