Well done, Rick, the streaking looks very convincing!

Did you use oil paint for the streaking effect?

Ondra

Thanks for the comment and continuing to follow my build Ondra!

Looking mighty fine Rick, I really envy you your completed fuselage assembly as I'm still mired down in the basics on mine, and it's ugly! I'll get a few photos on here shortly. The wing streaking looks very "real" to me, and I especially like the green and brown colours you've come up with!
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks Lance! In the end I am certain your skills will eclipse my attempt by far!

Ondra

Ondra, I am sorry I missed your question originally. Yes Oils were used. Cerullian blue, Harrison red, olive green, white, black and some light green.

This looks bang on based on the reference material available. Its just my eye is still having trouble with the actually" look". I'm not disbelieving just adjusting....

Definitely looks spot on - nice streaking effect!

I also have some challenges with seeing the divisions of color in the period pics of the DVIII - there are a few that I THINK I can see it but there are just as many that look pretty uniform. In particular the underside of the wing is hard to tell much of anything - most cases it looks very dark but I guess shadows etc....

I really wonder why the recent reproduction DVIII now at TVAL went with the solid color wings - do they question the current prevailing thoughts on four color wings?

I think the Jury is still out on this one. Like you said some photos show demarcations and some do not. I am pretty convinced that the stains used created a streaked effect, clearly shows on closeups of Jasta 6 birds. Whether it was multi colored....the list of ingrediants for finishing the wing is the biggest pro. But could the brown and green been mixed for the uppers, and the violet and blue for the unders?
No one can deny any possibility unless futher evidence shows up, IMHO!

Your E.V looks really good, the streaking on the wings nicely done.

Thanks Guys! The landing gear struts proved to be MORE than challenging. My solution was to use the struts from an abandoned Roden Fokker DVI and cut a slot in the axle wing to accept them.

RAGIII

PS: Here is my assessment. If you have the skills replace the gear struts with tubing. I am still not sure the struts will hold the model once the wing is added. If like me you don't have the skills for metal struts , prepare and use a jig. My main issue was having struts splay in every direction but where I wanted them to go  :-[

Just thought I would throw this in here as I just noticed I MISSED this in Rowans post on his decals:

"An assembly jig for the top wing and undercarriage is included in each set as self-adhesive labels, to be applied to 2mm+ card. The jig parts may then be cut out and glued together. We hope this will prove a popular and useful aid, given the multiplicity of individual thin struts and precarious nature of the top wing mounting. "

So the jigs are being prepared and IMHO will certainly be a great aid in assembling this kit!  Worth waiting for if you aren't in a hurry to build an EV/DVIII !
