I'm still undecided on the markings. HR Clay Jr plane or the white bat....

Hi, Andrew, I am a fan of those USAS Camels, don't really know, why... Will follow your build, for sure! Both of the versions you're showing are beautiful and interesting, I think, but I‘d go for the white one. I have 2 kits of the USAS Camel in my stash, plan to do the whitey, too, and Kinley's bus. But I am afraid I will need two more USAS Camels for the „Camel“-Camel and the night-fighter. But no real problem, as I only buy and stash, but don't build my kits.

Andrew,
A USAS Camel, now that's one bird you don't see much of. Excellent choice of subject for the GB my friend.Looking forward to your first progress and wish you the best of luck.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette

The white bat has a more distinctive look, but both these two Camels are very attractive. Will follow.
Ciao

Two great looks for you Camel, looking forward to your progress.

A lovely choice of subject, Andrew! One of my favourites! Strange to see so few Camels, I'm glad you're doing this one! Regards, Marc.

Let's go!
Still undecided on the scheme, but let's say 70% the "classic" Usas and 30% the white one.
I've started to prime the main assemblies.
Desert yellow acrilic for wood parts and alclad black base for metallic ones.
Usual oil work for wood. I think that later I'll add some clear orange for finishing.
Alclad Aluminium for metallic parts.
I've painted also the cowl, even if it will be painted red or white because I want to add some scratches to the paint, so I need the metal base.
And inside it's natural metal....
Some more details painted and few parts assembled.
Still needs some retouches, details, washing, dirt, rigging, ecc.... ;)
(if you spot some white putty it's because there are some sink marks ( on WnW kit!!! :o ) near the rearmost strut. Didn't spot them before painting

That's all

still undecided... the white one is one of a kind, the standard one has more material to play with... painted canvas , wood paint., bright orange number on top wing...
::)we'll see

Hi!
Small update on the interior.
I've done the rigging. Still to finish control stick, add seatbelts and some details.
I will not go crazy on detailing the interior, as it will not be very visible.

Lovely work Andrea, coming along very well indeed.

What a lovely interior, Andrew! A lovely representation of the natural tones of wood, metal and wires in the cockpit... I love it! Regards, Marc

Hi Andrew,
Great start on a lovely kit.
I enjoyed building the Camel, although one thing to watch out for are the cabane struts.
As they are molded as part of the cockpit side frames, they are rather exposed until the upper wing is fitted.
Therefore they are easily knocked when being handled - I had one break off completely.

Hi!
Finally some update....
I've almost finsihed the cockpit. Still some paint work to do on the pads on the MG's and the cloche, but I can do it with fuselage closed.
I've added the tail skid (still to do the wood effect with oils, but I'll do at the end).
So now the fuselage it's closed.

And a little test with lower wing and tailplane, no problem there.
Now I have to attach the cockpit coaming and start to work on fuselage paint.
At this point I can say that I'm a little bit disappointed with the kit.... :-\
Nothing major, it's still a great kit ;) , but to me it looks like the project have been a little bit rushed maybe.
Quite a few of sink marks compared with other WnW kits and some other minor issues that take a little time to correct.
Maybe because they had to do a lot of versions based on a single project. ::)
I'm currently building also the Taube and despite it's a lot more complex airplane, it's a lot more straightforward build.
Anyway it's always a pleasure to build a WnW kit, so I'll go on.
Bye

Hi!
Back a t work.
I had to finish a project for my model club, now I'm back on the camel.
I've started to prepare the abse for the wood and a first coat of green on the fuselage and red on the cowling.
Wood made with oils, still needs a final clear coat. Not a great fit of the cockpit coaming... :(
(http://andymodels.altervista.org/Camel/17.jpg)
Usually I pre-shade the wing structure, but this time I'll try something different.
A PC8 base, then oversprayed with dark green.
You can see some sections only with base, some with a light overspray of green and some finished.
After decals and clear coat I'll add some post-shading with oils.
Finally I've started to add decals.
Now back at work! ;D

Excellent work on the wood and I like the results of the various shades of PC! Wings look great with the markings applied!

Finshed! Just in time!
First the last steps:
Assembly of lower wing
(http://andymodels.altervista.org/Camel/20.jpg)
Rigging. I've used elastic thread, I didn't have time to go for flat wire.... The part above the MG's was the most tricky.
Didn't documented all steps, it was a choice between finishing the model or doing a step by step... :-[
The wings where decaled and oversprayd with flat, then I used the oil dots technique to add some weathering.
Propeller was treade with oils for the wood part.
On the cowling I left a semigloss finish, I think it looks good.

Now a summer break and then I'll start my Gotha UWD
Thank to everybody for the nice comments
