Hi all,
Made a start today on the newly arrived Gaspatch Models 1/48 Salmson 2A2 (mid-type)... glad to be jumping back into a 1/48 scale kit, given I didn't build anything in this scale last year (or much of anything in any scale, to be honest....). My aim is to build this kit straight out of the box; given the comprehensive content of this kit it should be a fun build.
I thought I would start at the front end instead of the usual cockpit. The kit contains the options of having the engine cowls on or off, and as such the kit contains a lovely radial engine. The engine comprises of around 50 pieces, so it is a mini-kit in itself, with lots of the parts count being taken up with the various bits of tubing, wiring and push-rods. It goes together surprisingly well, though there are some solid and inconvenient pour stubs to deal with, and some very tight tolerance fits for the etched pieces.
And with the exhaust ring and radiator dry fitted:
I'm not overly happy with the exhaust ring painting that I have done, but looking at photos a dark and dull colour that blends in with the forward cowl paint seems to be appropriate.
Next is onto the cockpit. All feedback welcomed
