If I have ever seen a better 1/72nd scale Albatros I certainly do not remember it! Just awesome work!

Wow, this one is getting better and better. You have an incredible eye for the detail and I echo Rick: The best 1/72 Albatros I've ever seen!
best wishes

Simply Shocking! And to think it's 1/72nd scale. Wow.

When I looked at the photos of the engine and propellor I thought that it was WNW and 1/3 scale. When I looked again I nearly fainted!! Words fail to describe that……

Thanks as always! I appreciate the kind words & encouragement!

I have been painting on the fuselage over the past week or 2. I started with the a mix of Tamiya Desert Yellow & white for the base, followed by grain drawn on with a burnt sienna watercolor pencil. I still need to refine my wood grain drawing technique, as someone on Facebook pointed out that the trees must have been huge back then judging from the size of my grain.  :P Oh well, I'll keep trying, plus much of this will be hidden with summer camouflage.

After a few passes with a damp brush, the grain was softened a bit & also gave the "wood" a nice tint. Watercolor washes were added here & there to tint various panels & lines.

After a few light coats of Testors Acryl clear gloss, I removed the masking.

Over the weekend, I added the various PE parts. One thing I tried was using matte aluminum Bare Metal Foil for the larger metal pieces on each side of the lower wing. After applying, I created swirl marks using 1500 grit sandpaper, then finished up with flat clear to subdue the shine. Although it is a bit hard to see in the photos, it looks almost right to the naked eye.

Small strips of leather combing still need to be painted, but that will be after the green summer camo.

Thanks again,
Steve

I can only echo Bud, Rick and Borsos - this really is the best 1/72 Albatros I have ever seen, my hat is off to your skills and attention to detail.

Cheers

Your work on this aircraft is outstanding, that it can be achieved in this scale is amazing.

Wow, Steve. That is unbelievable. I must say your wood looks very concincing and I think the size of the grain it is not too big. Otherwise you won't be able to see it anymore.

Beautifully done woodwork! I did try something similar with Uschi's woodgrain decals but couldn't even get that right!
