This is the project I had in my mind for some time now. I would like to build the Fokker D.VII from Polish post WW1 war service flown by Józef Hendricks in 4. Wlkp Sqn. in the 1920 war against Soviets.

This is the a/c I look at every day as its picture by Tomasz Kaca adorns my cell phone cover :)
I have completed a set consisting of Eduard OAW weekend kit, Brassin Mercedes engine, Ed Zoom PE, Part PE for Fokker version of D.VII and Wood-and-Wire 5colour losenge decals.
The first days were spent on scraping the fuselage interior to fit Part internal truss with front section exchanged for more accurate Eduard bits from the engine Brassin set.
I have cut off the upper engine cowlings because photos show many Fokkers of 4. Sqn without them.
I have also removed the OAW details from side engine cowlings. Unfortunately the Part PE bits are overscaled but after a successful attempt I am quite optimistic that I will be able to cut the single louvres and covers and glue the to plastic sides. To be continued...

WOW! I am in Awe of anyone that can bend and fold those PE interior frames without Mutilation! Looking awesome!

I will follow this. This is going to be very interesting.
-
What a start, wow!
Also I love your phone cover! I had a custom one printed too but it faded rather quickly.

Great start. I am curious how the Eduard Fokker will went together. I only did Roden Fokkers so far and they a realy a pain
-
Thank you for your interest in this build. I will try not to disappoint you.

Part PE are lovely to work with. They are soft, not requiring annealing, unlike WNW ones. They also have finely etched fold lines. Small pieces can be easily folded with just firmly gripping tweezers. For larger elements like that truss I have a fine folding multitool, highly recommended.

I have built one of them too. It truly required hard work. I remember especially the horrible fuselage lower wing connection. Here it looks very promising.
I have spent some time choosing best options for the interior bits.
The seat is from Part and the cushion cut from kit part. Seat belts EdZoom, linen screen and support Part.
The seemingly fine kit stick will surely be replaced with Part version.
So will be the rudder bar. The Part floor had poor underfeet panels, so I cut these from the kit massive floor.
The instrument panel will be Part with a fragment from EdZoom with clocks treated as the subfoil. Thecwood printed on the latter is horrible... Also more 3D effects will come with magneto and two switches cut from the kit panel. Three fuel switch levers are from Part, hardly discernible!
And finally the throttle is Part and the compass will be combination of kit element and EdZoom face. Unfortunately all these printed pieces in EdZoom are out of register. This will require some retouches.

The new flying controls look fantastic! It's amazing how overscale and out of place the kit parts suddenly appear.
By now I just know all your stuff has the Midas Touch so I have run out of new compliments to say.
Same here: whenever a new update is posted on a PrzemoL build I have to take a few moments to ponder how I can add to the conversation!

Good to see that you have returned to the True Scale. Those parts really are tiny - I am not sure that i could see them to work with any more!
Stephen.

Nice to see your progress. Those Eduard D.VII's are certainly far and above what the Roden kits were.
WD
-
Prze, you are the master of all scales!?!
After all the WNW models, you deliver a great job on the other side of the biplane scales too ;)
The Eduard Fokker seems to be a nice kit, but it is also much newer than the Roden one.
Cheers,
Frank

Thank you, you are really supporting me with your comments.

Stephen.
The eyesight problems are exactly the reason why I try 72nd scale so rarely nowadays.

Neither master, nor all scales, Frank.
I would not try 144th because of my eyesight. And 48th, either, as this scale would cause me problems being too large for my tricks and simplifications from 72nd and too small to detail the model as I try to do in 32nd.
Today some colours were applied.

Amazing. What a level of detail!
-
That’s wonderful, I’ve wanted to try some Part parts. Seeing the kit parts next to the PE make the kit look a lot more clumsy than I remembered. That Part steering stick seem actually *too* small. :o Your use of mix of PE and plastic takes it to the next level.
The Eduard D.VIIs are wonderful kit by the way.
-
Fantastic stuff as always Prez! Good to see more examples in the scale that truly tests the brave and the foolish, and sorts the men from the boys, as they say...! ;D
(PS - I can't hold a candle to some of the stuff you guys do in 1/32, let alone 1/72, so I mean the above with the greatest of respect!)
Cheers,

Good grief - I'm not sure if I want to just throw everything I'm working on away or if this really, really inspires me :-\ (Inspires me of course) ;D
Love the progress so far and following eagerly

Seeing a 1/72 D.VII fuselage frame just blew my mind. WOW!!
-
Thank you once more.
I managed to insert all the cockpit bits into the truss. The instrument panel was especially demanding, I had to invent the ad-hoc jig to hold it still and carefully apply the liquid CA glue.
Enough for today, tomorrow I will try to add the control cables, fine Uschi line is waiting ;)

It is hard to believe it is 1/72nd.
My thoughts exactly: with the right accessories and backdrop I'd be easily fooled into thinking you'd visited a friend's workshop to see their 1/1 replica! Immaculate work as always!
-
Wow, Przemo, this is some incredible stuff in 1/72! Back to your roots and detail that makes our jaws drop to the ground! Well done, and I'm enjoying this one so much! Regards, Marc.
-
Thank you!
Today I have reached my limits. Installing of 6 control cables and two from throttle strained my weakening eyesight and more and more clumsy hands beyond anything I could expect. Well, they are mounted but it was a 2 hours horror and the nature of Uschi material did not help, either. After that adding the resin firewall from Ed Brassin engine set was a breeze. Enough for today...

Thank you for the kind words.
In recent days I worked on further details. Spandaus are a mix of kit parts, Part and EdZoom.
Mercedes is of course Ed Brassin with water pipe and timing gear transmission column from soldering wire.
The radiator which is a modified kit element (one of many) will have the interior grill from EdZoom and a filling pipe with cover from scratch. Also the air pump at the engine forehead will be added.
All nicely fits after just a slight trimming at the opening for the prop shaft. Ready for colouring!

Stunningly wonderful!
Prze, how do you get such a clean roll on the p/e Spandau jackets? I still struggle with this.
WD
I basically use drill bits, one after another, with decreasing diameter, rolling them gently over the PE part laid on my fingertips. Final roll is done just between the fingers. It works fine for Part PE, which, as I wrote eariler, are very nice to work with - thin, soft and easy to bend. On the other hand, WNW ones require annealing in flame. And they were also thicker, so then after some curvature is already there, I roll the drill bit over the rigid surface, a metal blade or a base of my PE folding tool.
Hope this helps :)
-
Amazing modelling Prze, I would struggle (and fail!) to come even close to these results in 1:32 Scale, and here's perfection and an astounding level of detail in 1:72! Beautiful work, just exceptional!
Cheers,
Lance
-
I have been away Prez and had failed to keep up with this thread. I am struggling to make interiors in 1/32 scal and they are nowhere near as good as yours in God's Own Scale! I am not at all surprised that rigging the control lines in the cockpit caused you stress - they cause me enough when fitting them in 1/32!
Absolutely brilliant work.

Thanks
Mercedes complete, dry fit with the radiator successful so just some dirt and it will be ready for installing. But there is also still some work to be done to the fuselage joint just behind the timing gear transmission, I had to add there a small plastic bit to hide the poor fit of the fire wall. After that I will try to add the air pump, short upper water pipe to the radiator and that small lever at the rear of the engine top.

Thank you, yet once more.
For the start of this report I would like to praise Eduard customer service. While checking the further elements I was shocked to realize that on my copy of this kit the triple struts supporting the centreplane are absent. Not moulded it seems. I have no idea how I missed this fault! Anyway, I have contacted Eduard and got an immediate answer that the replacement will be sent to me within a couple of days. Should be here on time when I will really need them. ;)
On the other hand the fuselage is being prepared for painting and decalling. The metal side panels from Part PE are mounted. As planned the louvres and covers from the oversize front ones were cut off and glued to the kit sides. The rear triangles were spot-on in size and shape so it was an easier bit. At the front the radiator-chin joint required some treatment with filler and sandpaper.
And also the undercarriage assembly is ready with seams filled and the wheels knobs lengthened to pretend they are axes reaching the outer spoke hubs.

Marc, I bought those decals many moons ago and I do not remember, where. But I did not have ocassion to use them up till now. A quick check in the web indicates that they are seemingly available for ordering at ElefantCorporation. But I am not sure, if this info is up-to-date, actually. One may also try to contact Slava Vanous, who is (was?) a producer.
The decals themselves are very fine. They are semitransparent, so they require gloss white substrate. They slide from the backing paper almost immediately after soaking, their carrier is soft but quite strong. And up till now I do not have any problems with them conforming to the delicate rib structure in this Eduard model. Also they nicely bend over the leading and trailing edges - the glue is very fine holding them on curvatures almost on its own but still allowing some decent time for location adjustment. A few tiny air bubbles are easily removed with some limited application of Micro Sol and delicate piercing. A real pleasure to work with.

Prze,
I thought the front louvre and panel detail on the kit was quite good, but the PART photo etch is even better. I will keep that in mind. Fantastic job.

With all due respect to you and to Roden, our Ukrainian friends have nothing to do with THIS build ;) Here, in the customer service aspect all the glory goes to Eduard. :D
Hereby I declare the application of the losenge and the tapes completed. In a summary, I can only praise these decals. It was a rare pleasure to work with them. Even conforming them to the thin trailing edges was a breeze.
And I have also finished colouring the fuselage. Now it will be time for markings decals, custom designed and printed by my reliable and invaluable friend Mr.Decal.

Really good-looking work on all of those rib tapes. I have several projects stuck waiting for the next 25% of the rib tapes to be added.
This week i went to the Boeing Museum of Flight and looked at the WWI display of replicas. The Pfalz D.XII had rib takes of the lozenge material and I nearly got dizzy trying to track what was where. I hope to use that style on a future project, which will probably drive me further batty.

How I made that error I have no idea, corrected!
Beautiful work Prze! The close-up photos appear to show a very wide weave on the lozenge.
The Pfalz D.XII had rib takes of the lozenge material and I nearly got dizzy trying to track what was where. I hope to use that style on a future project, which will probably drive me further batty.
You're among friends Rick, that sort of thing is totally normal around here!

This can't be 1/72....

The tapes have turned out beautifully! The fuselage Lozenge is looking terrific!

Beautiful work as always, the rib tapes look amazing.
Rib tapes on the tailplane? I don't remember seeing that before Prze, very interesting!

Thank you.

I was thinking about it and finally decided to follow what Aviattic has in the offer for D.VIIs

Wow this looks grand Prez!
Extremely well done lozenge job. Another beautiful addition to your already great collection of aircraft.

Thank you, everyone.
Some more work done, first I had to correct the wrongly oriented checkboards on the lower wings, then some shading on the markings, and repair patches on the left rear fuselage, some guessing for the right rear fuselage as there is no photo showing that side, also some wash and dirt. Almost ready for the final assembly.

This will look fantastic when put together.

I agree with Ken, she really is shaping up to be a beauty. Great work Prze, and a nice save on the wing checks!

Thank you. I hope I will not spoil this model in the final stages...
In the meantime:

Very nice!
Good luck with the last steps. Be careful!

Fantastic work so far, Prez -

Trying hard to be careful, Frank.
Thanks!
Today it is most probably the last update in this build with only upper wing and fuselage step and lifting handles missing. So, ladies and gentlemen, here it is D.VII, oops, I mean E.VII monoplane ;D

The struts attached. The upper wing, put on without glue yet, was used as template.

That is an amazing DVII Przemo! The scheme gets more eye catching every time I see a new photo. Terrific work on the struts!

Thank you, Alexis and Rick.
I have basically finished this model. But it becomes my new habit to install a temporary propeller. A better one, possibly from thin veneers, is in preparation. But the model can go to the vitrine and free the space in my bench.
Thank you for your support and watching.

She really looks the part Prze, congratulations!
What brand of decal did you use for the lozenge? The weave(?) seems very wide/large.

And another Beautiful Bird goes in your display Case!

Wow!
Willem

That is superb. In 1/72 it is amazing!
Congrats.

Thank you, Lady and Gentlemen.
What brand of decal did you use for the lozenge? The weave(?) seems very wide/large.
It is Wood and Wire decals. The weave pattern indeed seems overdone but it is mostly the flash macro photography effect. In the reality it seems much better, IMHO more than acceptable. Try watching the photos diminished to the real dimensions of the model. The effect gets moderated. ;)
When I have the propeller I will take better photos, using the proper photo camera, without flash and with better field-depth. It should show the model as it really is.

Yet another inspirational build PrzemoL.
Alan.

Well done Przemek!
-
I agree with Al - another inspirational model and build. Although it is in the True Scale I could easily believe that it is 1/24. Many congratulations on such an excellent model.
Stephen.

Great and beautiful build Prze, thanks so much for taking us along on the ride.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the prop.
