Climb me a Mountain.
« on: June 26, 2015, 04:39:47 PM »
Hello all,
Just to let you know that this Chief Buckler is off on his summer holidays soon.

I ride the 540 miles to Fort William in glorious Scotland on Saturday 27th and will be away until the 5th of July.
Apart from visiting a friend, eating too much, drinking the odd dram and riding the nuts off my big beastly bike, I plan on climbing Ben Nevis, our highest mountain in these United Kingdoms. It will either kill me or make a man of me - I'm hoping the latter applies from this scenario  :D

I will dip in and out of the forum whilst away.
Take care all!

Beautiful part of the world, Bob. Come back all refreshed and ready to get stuck in again to those little brass cylinders and eyelets that we love!

Best wishes
Nigel

Bob,
I stood at the foot of that impressive rock almost two years ago, magnificent area! My advice FWIW, do not drink the local suds, do not eat the local fare (especially sea food and venison) and do not speak to the generally miserable local inhabitants! But you told me some time ago that it's one of your more precious places, so you know all of that! Lucky Fellow!
Enjoy your break, and be careful with that "beastly bike" of yours, I can't afford another Buckles Order just yet....... ;)
Cheers,
Lance

Looks to be an awesome trip, Bobbsy, me boy!  I'm envious.  Our family has been deeply entrenched in the Outlander series, so the Highlands and Fort William have been bandied about with regularity around here.  Send us lots of photos.
Cheers,
Bud

Aye, as Bud says, please post lots of photos...you'll have an international audience riding with you. And, when you get a good stretch of downhill, coast, take off your helmet and let the wind blow through your hair......er, ah...across your scalp!!

Enjoy your holidays, Von Bobthemountaineer!  Drive safe, try to
keep both wheels on the ground and for goodness sake don't
use your lovely wee eyelets for Pitons! 8) :P :o ;) ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Enjoy Scotland Bob, I love it up there!  Which way up are you going up the Ben?  Not done it myself but I understand there are various routes - some more easy than others ;)

Will you get to go North East too - along the Spey or around the Black Isle, and ride back across the highlands to Ullapool then down the West coast?  Ages since I was up there.

I made it to my first B&B in Lockerbie.
Not a bad view, eh?!

On to Fort William in the morning. I can't wait to see the Highlands once again  :-*

Left wet and windy Lockerbie this morning and rode the 200 miles to Fort William. The Sun came out near Glen Coe and it's been lovely ever since.

These pictures were taken a few miles from Glen Coe.

This picture is of the Ben Nevis mountain range and it is the view from my week long B&B. Marvelous!

Have a good time Bob - but you would be better off further north. REAL Scotland starts at Ullapool and lies to the north - Assynt is where i spent a very wet week mapping as a student more years ago than I care to remember. I have been there many times since but have not been able to go in recent years for many reasons. It is a place of pilgrimage for me - Ben Nevis, Grey Corries and Fort William are just a stopping place on the way home!

Have a really good time and make sure that you do not view the mist and miss the view!
