This is the Eduard Weekend edition of Nieuport 17 - Reme Dorme.
I had a twisted fuselage, which seems to be a problem for some people, but using strip styrene to fill the gaps and eventually got a good fit. Other than that this was a fun build.
The box art (single Vickers) and instructions (over wing Lewis) didn't match, so I downloaded the Profipack instructions and followed them for a Vickers equipped plane.
Rigging is mainly Ez-Line, with undercarriage done in fishing wire.
Paint is a mix of Tamiya Flat Aluminium/White for plane, and Citadel Chain Mail for cowling.
Wood is Vallejo Dk Yellow + Vallejo Wood Grain.

Nicely done. Did you spray the Citadel and if so what did you thin it with?

Nicely done. I find the Citadel silvers stomp all over the Tamiya Aluminium in so far a quality of finish is concerned.

Ken,
Beautiful Nieuport 17 my friend. The silver looks spot on too.

Hi Steve,
I have a mix of water & "Winsor and Newton Galeria Acrylic Fluid Retarder" at 20:1 which I use to thin the Citadel when both spraying and brushing.
Interestingly the mix also makes Tamiya Acrylics brushable, something I once thought impossible.

I found that using solely W&N flow aid as a thinner with Tamiya acrylics they brushed superbly but unfortunately they never dried. I will try the water bit as well and see how it goes. I have used a water and flow aid mix with vallejo and while it paints easily its not very resistant to any sort of handling.

Beautiful little Nieuport, Ken. Thanks for the tip on the W&N retarder.
Cheers,

I've also found the retarder has an adverse effect with Vallejo, for spraying I start with a mix of 3:1:1 of Vallejo:plain water:Revell Aqua Mix and adjust if too thick/thin.
For Revell Aqua I start with 6:1:1 of Revell Paint:Water+Retarder:Revell Aqua Mix.

Lovely looking Nieuport Ken, beautiful finish.

Hallo Ken,
First of all my congrats for the Nieuport, it looks splendid.
On the retarder you quote I have a question: I normally use Tamiya acrylics by brush and sometimes I have problems, what is the effect "Winsor and Newton Galeria Acrylic Fluid Retarder" has on those colors?
You mix 20 parts of Retarder to 1 of color or the other way round?
Thanks for informing

Hi Antonio, thanks for your comments.
The retarder is mixed 1 part retarder to 20 parts water, I keep a small bottle of mixed solution.
Previously when I tried brushing the Tamiya Acrylics they would not go on smoothly and would streak, even when mixed with water. However, if I use the retarder mix at a 1:1 ratio to paint then they do apply smoothly in a thin layer. I still prefer Vallejo for brush painting, but it's sometimes useful to be able to brush same paint as I used with Airbrush.

Thanks Ken this is a very useful tip, I noted it down and will try to apply it.
