Somebody just got an early Christmas present ;)

http://www.hasegawausa.com/product-pages/hsgs0031.html

I had a quick look inside this kit.  I expect (being Hasegawa) it will turn out to be a quality model, however I don't like the different coloured sprues.  OK the painting will make all the difference, but the coloured plastic implies the kit could be built without painting, and this is what the box shots look like.  I guess the colour of the plastic means that I can get away with thinner paint layers, but somehow I find this distracting.

The "metal" parts have an aluminium effect finish.  This looks quite fine, and is much better done than kits such as the Airfix Bentley with the heavily chromed parts.  The aluminium effect parts seem to have the sprue attachments in hidden areas, so my not need too much surface repair once cut out.  I may be incorrect, but I will probably use Humbrol metalcote steel spray can for these parts.

The parts themselves (on first view) look crisp and clean, with no flash and sharp details.  The wing ribs have ejector pin marks on one side, so the debate I will have is whether to blend these out or not - but there are many ribs!

I guess this will have to wait, in the stash for a while, so I will hope to find a few build logs to follow!

I must add, I am a little disappointed with the seat pan on this model.  The wicker back looks great, but the base has no surface details at all.  So much so I was looking to see if there was another molding of a cushion that goes on top.

Hello All

Just got back from two days in the UK. All I managed to get there was

1) Datafile 157 on the Halberstadt CL.II - for no obvious reason.
2) the Aeroplane Aviation Archive special on Aeroplanes of World War I because it was there on the shelves in the newsagents.

But when I got home last night, La Poste had delivered

3) the amazing volume Tumult in the Clouds, the aviation artwork of Russell Smith. Beautiful
4) a Roden 1/48 DH4 which seemed to be going very cheap on eBay

It felt like my birthday

Best wishes
Nigel

Lance, those will look good under any aeroplane!  Nice!
...Does that mean a Pfalz will be next off the blocks?

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Not exactly World War I, but a Hasegawa 1/48 Ki-44 Shoki (Tojo) Prototype 47th Independant Flight Company, and a 1/48 Hasegawa Ki-44-II Shoki (Tojo) "Shinten Seikutai" and 1/48 Lifelike Decals Ki-44 Tojo's Part 1 and Ki-44 Tojo's Part 3.

Those sound like very interesting kits of the Ki-44, James.  Although I'm building mostly 1/32 WWI aircraft recently, I also like 1/48 WWII aircraft, and have an embarrassingly large stash of same.  ::)  Model on!

Regards,

Bob

Hi Bob, I'm a Ki-44 Tojo freak. Ihave about 9 or 10 1/48 scale Tojo's in the stash and a 1/32 scale Tojo in the stash.  I also have quite a lot of World War II 1/48 aircraft stash. I only have two World War I kits at the moment, the Wingnut Gotha G.IV and the Rumpler Cl.IV Early. I'm hoping to pick up the Fokker E.I soon and my wife wants their Pfalz and Albatros.

As I love to say Ernie, "the only thing we're sure of,.............is we're not sure"! I know it won't be PC12 or PC10, something with a little colour is needed for variety after two Brit subjects. :-\ The Pfalz is high on the list.
Cheers,
Lance

Lance, I'm right there with you. I have a set, and they are just .... too cool for school. Should be a nice addition to your next build.

There was a knock on my door at 8am today (Monday) and there was the parcel post man with my Wingnuts Salmson 2-A2/Otsu 1 kit, what a great Christmas present.

Santa (via my other half) brought me the WNW Ninak :)

Also a fold away spray  booth complete with extractor so I can spray indoors (extractor tube can go out the open window).
