Nope...I couldn't help it. I had to start another card model. Dang it. This one was about $6 when I downloaded it a couple of years ago and it looks pretty nice. It's done up in Kissenbarth's markings and should build up well. I started some interior stuff with the gas tank, floor boards and the compass. The only change has been to paint some masking tape and wrap it around the tank to give some relief to the straps or welding around the tank. I don't think you'll see much when it's together, but, as they say...I'll know it's there! I also added some Testors Window Maker to add "glass" to the compass.
More to come!

Great start. As always I will follow along!

Cool !!!!

Thanks, Rick and Terri! I've always liked this machine. I made a flying model of it years ago and while it didn't exactly set any records, it looked cool as it flew overhead rather briefly.
I got some more interior done along with the pilot's seat. Added some rudder cables from EZ-Line and got the interior "tubular" steel attached on the inside fuselage walls. In keeping with the paper model design, I decided not to use pulled sprue etc. which would have been nice and round but...then it wouldn't be a paper model!
I still need to add some wire from the throttle (maybe it's an advance of some kind?) as well as the tank pressurizer. More to come!

Real good start. I will watch carefully.

Looking amazing as always!

Thanks, Everyone! Even more mayhem tonight. I started getting the fuselage together. It's construction is...shall we say...unconventional. It's kind of odd, but if I can keep it all square, perhaps it will make a nice, strong and straight fuselage. We'll see. The pictures tell the story. I think my sequence is correct in that this is an inner skin and the outer skin with the markings should act as a shell and go over all of this...at least that's my theory! ;D
Stay tuned...Dan
-
Quick and very well done as always Dan!
RAGIII
-
Thank you, Rick! Tonight I got most of the basic fuselage structure in place. It's kind of wavy in places and not perfect, but it does look surprisingly ok. I think next time I'll make a balsa backing for the outside skin and just make my own formers and put it together like my flying models. Oh, well...live and learn.
Overall, it's ok. Now I will make the rear cockpit decking, the cockpit edging and the gun next. Coming along!
Cheers,
Dan
-
Looks Fantastic as always! I really love what you do with these!
RAGIII
-
My God , ...are you drugs ? And if so ...can you share ?
This is turning out to be a rather quick build and like Rick said , love what you do with these paper models . Awesome 8)
Terri
-
I think I needed some drugs tonight. I spent about 2 hours just getting that darn gun made and installed. Lots of cutting to the designed line and then lots of modification to make it look passable. Kind of messy around the edges etc.
At least she's armed!!!
More soon...Dan
-
Not much tonight...got the rear cockpit decking and coaming attached. Next will be the tails or maybe the wings...or both!
Cheers,
Dan
-
Looking Terrific!
RAGIII
-
Looks fantastic (late to the show, sorry).
-
Well , really depends on which drugs Dan ;) Pink pills are for your sanity ;) She does look good armed now , time well spent :)
Terri
-
More drugs tonight! Well...my wife made some amazing fudge. May as well be a drug. ::)
Tonight I got the cowling done and the tails started. Looking good thus far!
I need to figure out how to attach the tails. It's sort of left to the imagination... :P
Cheers,
Dan
-
Got the tails cobbled together. They look ok though some of the geometry is a bit off. Still looks the part! The tail skid is also nice to have on as it protects everything back there. I think the wing or the landing gear will be next...Stay tuned.
Dan
-
Looks absolutely perfect to My eyes!
RAGIII

Nothing wrong with that tail end , looks good from here
terri

Thanks, Terri and Rick! It does look like a D-II so I'm pleased so far...
Made, installed and rigged the landing gear struts. I'll work on the wings this weekend!
Cheers,
Dan
-
It looks very nice!
Andreas

The gear looks excellent! I am looking forward to the wings!
RAGIII

Wings are pretty soon! I am starting the engine which is rather tedious but slow and steady wins the race. I got the basic crank case done and it will spin along with the prop on the firewall. I also got the prop done too.
More tomorrow!

Having too much fun...Dan

Well , not really Dan , now if this was flying then that would be a different story altogether ::) . That there is icing on the cake along ;). But you did feed us are addiction and even one up that with a video ! Spinning engine and everything !!! :) :) :) :)
Have you ever tried to fly one of these when finished ? I do wonder if they would fly .
Terri
-
Hi Terri...
Thanks for the note! These will fly if you balance them carefully and maybe increase tail areas and give them slight dihedral. They are pretty heavy as is, so you need to make them out of depron (which folks do) or stick and tissue that I prefer. My flying models have worked well at about 13 inch span and above. Those are called "P-nut" scale and there are contests etc. with them and they are finicky but fun to make fly. There is a scale called "Pistachio" which is only 8 inches wingspan (I think) and I've never had success with those. Sweet spot seems to be about 18-25 inches and 0.5-1.5 ounces for really light wing loadings and floaty performance!
More soon for your addiction!
Dan
-
Even smaller ?
I guess weight would be a big issue the smaller you get . What is their power source ? I guess very small electric motors and arm power . So it sounds the smaller they are they flutter rather then glide ....
Bring it on Dan , bring it on ! ;) feed that addiction :-X

You didn't crash and burn did you ?

Hi Terri...nope. We just had Thanksgiving down here, a mother-out-law visit and I'm trying to make some Christmas gifts for family including a paper windmill for my wife's mom (she's Dutch) and a cute knitted badger for my daughter who just started her first job teaching elementary school music. He will have a little satchel with music books inside.
Gasp...
Yes...I said knitted. One of my other hobbies is knitting. I'm not sure why but making little stuffed animals is kind of fun!
So I shall be back on the Fokker this weekend, you can be sure of that! ;D
Thanks for checking in!
Dan
-
Nothing wrong with knitting Dan , my Dad used to knit and same with my brothers when they were younger much younger .
One very busy household Dan , nothing wrong with that either . Hope you had a excellent thanksgiving and enjoyed your time with family .
Terri
-
Nothing terribly exciting...but I've started the wings! Now I have some "me" time after making lots of Christmas goodies and gifts. I hope to get lots of modeling done on vacation!
AND...here is the little badger I finished knitting for my music-teacher daughter just for giggles.

Dan,
You're a man of many talents. Have a great time during the holidays and in the short term, stay dry.
The rain on this side of the Sound is non-stop. Makes for a good reason to do some modeling.

Hi Kevin...
No kidding! I went through a river on my way to do some Christmas shopping this morning. I was just thinking about you the other day and wondered how life was treating you in the Orchard. Nice to hear from you.
Thanks for chiming in and yes...I'm working on the Fokker right now!
Cheers and Merry Christmas,
Dan
-
The wings look Fantastic! Nice work on that Badger also! Enjoy your Holidays!
RAGIII
-
The wings are moving forward nicely Dan . Did you add wire wing spars ? Super knitting work as well Dan , looks fantastic . What was the stitch used ?
Terri
-
Thanks, Folks! Terri: the model calls for adding wire spars along with 10 million small ribs with holes in them for the wire. I think those will be split in a thrice so I'm substituting with airfoil-shaped 1/16th balsa I've sanded and slipped into the paper skins and will add small pieces of wire in the mid section. That's what I'm working on now.
The knitting was all easy except that it's my first time trying intarsia. It is how you knit the black/speckled parts with the white and you need 5 little balls of yarn just for the head since you need a new yarn ball as you get to a new color area. Not as simple as just making stripes around the knit. It's tough to keep track of all the yarn tails and balls. Imagine all the rigging on a 1/72nd scale Staaken bomber and that's what it feels like! ;D
More soon ( on the Fokker!)...Dan
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR, ALL!
So for my first post (well...it's only 9:37PM Dec. 31st for me...), here is the bottom wing attached! We are trying to stay up for midnight and so we are all hobbying at the table!
Cheers,
Dan
-
Happy New Year Dan,
Nice progress you made...looks good!
Robin :)
-
Bottom wing looks great in place. Happy New Year!
RAGIII
-
Happy New Year Dan ! She does look good with the lower wing in place 8)
Terri
-
Thanks, Everyone...
Top Wing together and I started attaching it as well! All is straight and true. The center section of the top wing was a bit dicey since it has an odd joggle in it and that's made in the kit by bending bits of piano wire bent with pin-point accuracy...yeah. It looks nice in the end!
Cheers and more to come today...Dan
-
Awesome Dan!
RAGIII
-
Thanks, Rick...
All that's left is the rigging, some fiddly bits and a date with a post-shading airbrush. Stay tuned...Dan :D
-
That is one sharp looking Fokker! Looking forward to seeing it finished!!
RAGIII

Check out some more shots of this finished beast in Completed Models!
This was a fun one to build. Looks cool too.
Dan

Really a nice one!
Andreas

Excellent build! As always I enjoyed following along!
RAGIII

I like it Dan , one of your best so far 8)
Terri

Thank you Andreas, Rick and Terri. Coming from you this means a lot!
Another paper model will be in the works after I finish a flying model (a Vought Kingfisher!) and get a couple of shelf of doom builds squared away. Stay tuned!
