I'm so sorry to see this one go down in flames, Rick. It was shaping up so well, and a great scheme, quite my favourite ace! As everyone says, put it in a box and one day we can come back to this unique build.. Regards, Marc.

Oh, what a shame. Always sad when something like this happens. Put it in the box and let it rest for a while. I think the damage is repairable. The model is worth it. As I am very clumsy this had happened to me several times and you can't see anything on the finished model.
Don't be sad,

Rick, I am so sorry and hurt to see this!

In my Halberstadt build thread Ken described the problem in wonderful words:
The landing gear and the tailplane mounting are just examples of the shortcomings of injection molded kits - the maker uses only what is available to them and what is feasible to do with the injection molding process.  For some applications, it is not the best way.

Your use of different materials that are more suitable for the application
Especially in exact scale produced parts are not able to hold the load, bend and broken struts are a problem also in long term.
Sometimes there are accessories to overcome this, e.g. the brass mold wing struts for the Meng Dr.I. The white metal replacements are not much better the plastic.

So I can only strongly recommend to replace such parts by wood, bamboo or squezzed brass tubing - all with pins for secure mount. A little bit more work during preparation, but trouble free mounting and a more robust model in long term.

Cheers,
Frank

So, as the title Now suggests this one is going the direction that 56 sq. chose as a maskot. Pheonix rising from the ashes  8)

Damage as seen on page 9 of this thread:

I have begun to repair the damage shown earlier in the thread. The landing gear spreader bar and fairing had to be repaired by adding new axles for the wheels.

I will also add a surprise. later....of course   8)

;D  I'm glad this one is back.  Three times a charm.

I'll have to do a SE5a sometime.

And I thought that the jig was the surprise!!

As Ken has written, three times a charm. The Roden version should also be interesting to follow.

Tip. For anyone assembling a clear plastic jig like shown in the previous post, I have found that the best cement is clear Gorilla Glue packaged in a 3.75 ounce (110ml) bottle. Very strong bond. I previously tried epoxy and CYA but they proved to be too brittle.

Thanks for the support Stephen. I will most likely do a lot of work on the Roden Viper version prior to completing the Encore/Roden SE.

Thanks for the tip! I think I used Gorilla two part Epoxy on mine. If it begins to fall apart in the future I will try the other Gorilla product!

great to see you're going to be revisiting this one and looking forward to seeing the roden one come together. I really should get back to my s.e.5a but some of the rigging wires have pulled through and i just don't fancy trying to fix them at this point

I followed the DH2 thread, but I'm not sure what off topic build you mean Rick.
