Rick, I am so sorry and hurt to see this!
In my Halberstadt build thread Ken described the problem in wonderful words:
The landing gear and the tailplane mounting are just examples of the shortcomings of injection molded kits - the maker uses only what is available to them and what is feasible to do with the injection molding process. For some applications, it is not the best way.
Your use of different materials that are more suitable for the application
Especially in exact scale produced parts are not able to hold the load, bend and broken struts are a problem also in long term.
Sometimes there are accessories to overcome this, e.g. the brass mold wing struts for the Meng Dr.I. The white metal replacements are not much better the plastic.
So I can only strongly recommend to replace such parts by wood, bamboo or squezzed brass tubing - all with pins for secure mount. A little bit more work during preparation, but trouble free mounting and a more robust model in long term.
Cheers,
Frank
