Wingnut Wings announces a Sopwith Camel kit in development
« on: February 19, 2013, 07:41:11 PM »
After much speculation Wingnut Wings has announced that the company is developing a new Sopwith Camel kit.

The confirmation comes from Richard Alexander as part of an article published in the latest newsletter of the British- based IPMS Great War SIG (Special Interest Group).

Asked about the speed of the kit development process he says the time from concept to release can vary and depending on several factors can take as little as 14-16 months, but usually takes longer.

"As an example, a project we have recently begun investigating is the much requested Sopwith Camel. I expect this
iconic machine will take at least a couple of years before it is ready to release.
" he says.

No further details of the Camel project are offered yet.

Well, I waited at least 3 years for a Fokker D.VII. It was already known in 2009 that they were preparing one. So 14 months is on the optimistic side, to put it mildly. And other messages relate about 50 ongoing projects at WNW.

Don't mind waiting though. There are enough kits in my stash to pass the time in between ;D ;D

Ivo

Well,
That seems to put Academy's "New-Tooled" Camels in the driver's
seat for "At least a couple of years". It will be interesting to see if they
"Make hay while the Sun shines" or get cold feet like other Mfgs did when
WNW announced a D VII three years ago?

This is great news and something I have been saying for quite a while, it is a very sensible move by Wingnuts to produce a Camel and the sooner they get it out the better. The Snipe kit I am building although only just released has a date stamp of 2011 on the sprues.

That is great news to wake up to. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. Perhaps they have been secretly working on it already and so its release could be sooner...

Bob v. B has my vote. The Duellists vol. 2 "Sopwith Camel & Fokker Triplane". Good news then for us as I'd think we'd get a 2F1 Camel as well. With the Dh-2, Tripe,Pup, Camel, and Snipe it seems most of the major Brit fighter types are represented?

With the amount of kits in development and the up to 4-5 year development time, WNW could quite legitimately say "We are looking to release kit X, which we have started investigating", where X is any kit you care to mention!

Great news on the Camel! It will be a certain addition to my stash along with all the other WNW kits I currently have and plan to get.

A Fokker Dr.I would go well with that Camel. Lets beat the forum drum until we see that plane also in the works.

You see, all this talk does pay off!

Just sayin.  ;)

I'd much much rather WNW did a subject that hasn't been covered in 1/32 before doing a Dr.1. The Roden kit may not be perfect, but it's quite good, and can be made into a very nice model.
