Title: Roden heads up
Post by: Dave W on February 12, 2021, 12:18:32 PM
Our friends at Roden have just posted a sampler of the kits they have on the way this year.... note the Spring 2021 tag on the 1/32 scale Spad XIII. This is the kit our Forum wants poll persuaded Roden to add to their list of new WW1 aircraft, and in fact will now be the first of the new kits to be released!

It looks like the 1/35 Holt Tractor and artillery gun combo is coming back too!

More news soon...

I'm looking forward to the SPAD XIII and the interesting news is the 1/35 Greyhound Silversides Bus.  That's on my list as well.  And with a twist of the arm I might be convinced to drop some do re mi on the 1/144 B-36.  Well done Roden

Good news Dave!
Don’t know much about these things but is that a quick turnaround from R&D this release? Well done Roden, much anticipated:)

Perhaps the R&D was already done for the most part because of the Spad VII's that have been around for  a while.  Lots of similarity between those versions of the Spad.

Love the look of the old B-type bus.   8)
Looks more reliable than half the buses currently in use around London  ;D

Box art shows early S.XIII, Guynemer.  Wonder if late version will be done?

They said they would do both early and late so hopefully yes! Personally I hope they include markings for some of the other Stork Squadrons and Pilots that flew early versions having already done Guynemer with the Hobby Craft kit  ;D

PS: I think it is crucial that anyone with an interest in seeing the "Late" model and the other projects purchase this kit. If it sells I am sure we will see more. JMHO

There are SO many marking possibilities with SPAD XIII's that it boggles the mind. Hopefully Pheon will fill the gap!  :)

Am I completely off or isn't the box art showing the SPAD XII '382' of Georges Guynemer?

This plane was armed with a short barrel canon of 37 mm mounted between the cylinders.

Georges Guynemer's Spad 12 n ° 382, with which he won 4 approved victories.

I think SPAD XII is based on VII and not XIII.

Hi all,
Strange how most asked for a SPAD XIII, but Roden are releasing the SPAD XII.
Of an order for 300, estimates of only 20 aircraft were actually built.

I think you are mistaken Mike. The 12 did not have the protruding covers over the cylinder heads. I just think the box art is deceiving in the look of the cabane struts. They look vertical like the 12. Lets Not come to hasty decisions based on Box Art. ( If this is indeed the Box Art) Roden said 13 and I would imagine that is what we will get. (Although the Roman Numerals do appear to say 12 I think it is an error, or  enlarging the tiny photo caused the I in the middle to be too fuzzy to see ? ) JMHO

I feel like the box painting is more likely SPAD XIII S.504 though it is hard to tell from the quality of the image we have so far.

Also agreed. The image quality is so vague that I can't even tell for sure that is a Stork and a number 2  ::)

Hi Rich,
Good spot - didn't see that clue.
As you say, early days yet and the box art may not be definitive.
Either way I'm sure it'll sell well,

Mike

They are doing both.

They are doing both.

Just to mention what we "Know". Roden has promised the Early and Late SPAD XIII. They asked us for recommendations on color schemes for those two and the promised Strutter and Avro 504. The box shown appears to be the Early XIII. Anything else is guessing/ speculation  ;D JMHO,
