Thanks to Warren Dickenson for supplying this kit and all of the aftermarket products used. True Details Interior, Wheel Well, and Wheels. Model Masters PRU blue with Valejo PRU blue mixed with white worked in for variation. Then Oils were used as washes and also Titanium white blended in.

To see a Wildcat is always a pleasure, more so to see one in Torch markings!

Really good looking weathering. You're mastering that skill!

Gorgeous build, Rick. I've always loved that scheme, my Dad missed Torch by a matter of a couple of months, but he had Wildcats Over Casablance and I read it a couple of times. I actually began research for a painting of an F4F dueling with a Curtiss Hawk 75 with the old Lafayette insignia and the red/yellow Vichy stripes, but it would have been a little too colorful...

Another great job from your stable, Rick -
I note you have added some aftermarket parts, but was the standard kit reasonable?

Dave

Lovely work, Rick ;)
The subtle weathering is on point.
Well done
Cheers,
Bob :)

Thanks Andreas. I sold a couple of things and got the Arma F4F-4. So another Wildcat in 1/72nd scale will eventually appear in Operation Torch Markings ::)

Thanks Dave! The book is great, IMHO. I plan to do some of the other squadrons involved using the Arma kit and probably an Airfix Wildcat with Folded wings. I also want initially do a Hawk 75 in the markings you describe as well as a D520. Oddly I can't seem to locate either. I guess they are not in current production runs from anyone :(

Thanks Dave! The original Interior is Very Basic! A floor with side consoles, a basic seat, and Flat IP / Decal. There is No Detail in the gear well at all.

Looks great RAGIII. I’m not familiar with this theater of operations but I really like the scheme. Your details and subtle weathering are excellent.
All the best,

The Hasegawa D520 is moving along. I have also begun to kitbash the Airfix P40-B and Heller Hawk 75 to make a better French Hawk. One more filling and sanding session needed on the Hawk.

Sweet, Rick! I'm really loving this thread, are you going to paint the Vichy stripes, or are there decals for them?
Dutch

Lovely detours from WW1, Rick. Watching with interest!

Vichy strips on a D.520 and a Hawk 75? Swoon!! Terrific work so far RAGman!

Great stuff RAG.

I love your folded-wing 'Cat Rick, but then you knew that. ;)
Can't wait to see these French birds completed!

Thanks to all for looking in. I will be painting the yellow and red stripes on the Hak 75 and using decals for the red on the D520...I think 8)
I have begun to paint the Hawk 75 kitbash. Pink as a base for a deeper yellow and a bluish grey for the underside.

Lovin' it, Rick! Was thinking of you at the show I went to on Sunday, they had a couple of D520s on the vendor's tables. Where'd you finally find one?

Thanks Dutch. I found the D520 on a FB auction site. So it has been a while but here is the progress on the Heller Hawk 75/Airfix Tomahawk kitbash. Painting has progressed. Blue grey unders and Dark blue grey, green, and brown uppers.
RAGIII
Correction: I got the D520 from WD!

Nice, Rick! I absolutely love these airplanes, and glad you're making progress on the N African project as well as the BoB.
I've been driving past a house for several years now a few miles from me that I'm pretty sure has a mural of an Export Hawk—Vichy stripes and all—painted on the garage, heading straight at you (the cowl is definitely red and yellow). But you only get a 1/5 second glimpse of it as you pass, looking straight down the driveway. I think it's time to stop and find out if I've been hallucinating...
Dutch
-
Beautiful work Rick. I really like the cammo effect and subtle weathering you have achieved.
-
Thanks Dutch and Tim! Here is where I am on the Hawk 75 kitbash. Landing gear added and ready to add the red stripes to the cowling and tail. By the way, if anyone can help I need Lafayette Markings for this kit. A SPAD XIII Indian Head or P40-F, P-47 GC II/5 Indian Head .

Only just found this Rick: I had forgotten that you are hiding in this corner these days.
My father was involved in the Torch landings - he landed at Bone, (now Anaba), with the field hospital of which he was a part. I have always liked the Wildcat since I built an Airfix kit of one in the mid-1960's. You are certainly making a first class job of these - the US Wildcat in particular. I thought it was 1/32 scale when I first saw the pictures. The Vichy aircraft will be very colourful and contribute to an exciting collection.
Stephen.

Beautiful job, Rick! I wish I could help out with the decals, but my 1/72 decal stash is still MIA after a move about eight years ago.
As I've mentioned elsewhere, both my sons have gotten back into WWI modeling, and are contemplating building Dr.Is, so I pointed them both to your Fokker streaking thread. I absolutely love those photos you posted of the black & white and red & yellow-marked a/c a year or so back. Stunning.

Thanks for the comments, Stephen, Dutch, and Ed! Something New appeared a week or two ago. Can't seem to Not Start a New project before finishing the old ones ::) Hasegawa 1/72nd TBF-1c converted to a TBF-1 by eliminating the wing MG's and adding a .30 cal to the forward fuselage.

I agree, it will make for a fascinating and rather colourful display!

Thanks Guys! I appreciate you following the Builds!
So the latest update on the TBF-1 Avenger. Painting is finished and weathering using various Oils is also complete! Now just a bit of touch up needed.

Looks great, Rick, your paintwork is always a treat to see! It always seemed shocking to me that such a huge brute of an aircraft would have such a delicate, rinky-dink tailwheel assembly...

Great work Rick, it looks terrific!

Thanks for the comments, Dutch, Brad, and Zac! I am pretty much finished with the Avenger now. CAG 9 USS Ranger November 1942. Weathering was done mostly with Oils. White, Burnt umber, Mars black, Cerulean blue, and Windsor blue. All were either mixed together or worked into the paint individually.

I agree, the weathering is exceptional... in fact the whole thing is one of the most beautifully-done models I've seen on the web lately. Ya' knocked this one out of the park, Rick!

I must agree with my compatriots - a stellar build! Wonderful weathering, and a great overall finish. The glazing is also well executed - must have driven you mad!

You're on a roll, Rick! I've had a soft spot in my heart for the SBD, I got to build one for a guy who flew one at Midway. He was thrilled when I was able to complete it in his squadron markings (VB-5? -6? Yikes, it was 35 years ago!), but this one's going to look even better with that big yellow surround.
Dutch
-
Missed some recent posts Rick: this is now quite a collection of types from North Africa: all of them are drop dead gorgeous. Your weathering is so subtle but so good.
Stephen.
-
The Dauntless always reminds me how I do my model work: Slow but Deadly… ::)
Very nice models all around! What markings for the SBD? Midway? With meatballs?
Andreas
-
Thanks Zac, Dutch, Stephen, and Andreas. I appreciate the comments. Andreas, The theme here is Operation Torch so no Midway scheme ;D. Basic scheme is painted and decaling has started. Hairspray was used for a small amount of wear on the cockpit side and wing root. Major Weathering is next.

Your finish is, as always, first rate. Quality models being consistently produced.

Thanks Stephen. All of the US Carriers had the Dauntless Dive Bombers as part of their Air Groups. The Escort carriers had half of their Scout/Bomber groups equipped with the Avenger. The Ranger, CV-4 had only one Avenger flown by the CAG of Air Group 9. That is the one I modeled.

Correction: The USS Suwanee had No Dauntlesses.
