Hello everybody!
This is my new project:
http://www.poncelet.eu/fr/aviation/actualites/poncelet-fait-revoler-l-aviatik-c1/ (http://www.poncelet.eu/fr/aviation/actualites/poncelet-fait-revoler-l-aviatik-c1/)
The Aviatik C.1
It is Cpper state models "old fashion"....
present all the model would be boring, you and I will discovered it by the way..
some pics to situate the model...
Well I couldn't say I didn't know
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2018/05/10//18051012540723469215706256.jpg) (https://www.casimages.com/img.php?i=18051012540723469215706256.jpg)
indeed...
the fuselage:
So 5 part for the fuselage , good start...
the engine is quite well detailed as all the little parts...
Oh! and I didn't present you the instruction book because there is not...
recreate the puzzle is part of the game!
This time i will not be able to protest, I perfectly now where i put my feets...
but I do believe the result will be quite interesting.

Super interesting subject. Not for mere humans, but your skill is not of this world. Looking forward to your progress and usual masterful work.
-
Awesome, Xan! What an exciting project! I've been considering doing this or the Lohner or the AEG next, since these will be among those kits re-done in plastic by CSM. Since you're starting this one, I'll probably do the AEG.
Really looking forward to following this build, mon ami!
Cheers,
Bud

Awesome project! I look forward to your progress.

Project is started!
the lower part of the fuselage have now the right form
first problem: a wing is smaller than the other !
Anyway i put two metalic part (two pins thin and strong)to fix the wings
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2018/05/12//18051209483423469215710060.jpg)
then I started building the fuselage...

then i will re-etch the ribbs...

3 sides of the fuselage are asembled:
I had to enlarge the upper part of the fuselage. It has been quite hot because cyano glue doesn't apreciate torsions at all...
Well it is done now, but anyway, putty and sand paper will be use...

As I say before nothing to represent the landing gear...
so we have to work with the drawing and this picture
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2018/07/07//18070701081823469215796091.jpg)
To scratch the landing gear I use "aeroclub" product wich get the work easyer...
et hop!
quite happy, i was thinking to mount the upper wing , wich had to be a formality , when....
As the other wing , left upper wing is smaller than the right one...
Back to basic work...
Xan

Really nice work on the gear! WOW, one wonders how that wing was molded/ cast so off! I am sure you will sort things out!!
RAGIII

Xan, what a great build! Plastic or resin - you are the real master in that scale!

Brilliant work on fixing the difference in the wing profiles.
RAGIII

Beautiful work all-around and especially fixing those little discrepancies (I know who to call if I need surgery).

time to paint...
first af all a white coat with tamiyas stripes
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2018/07/28//18072812035023469215825214.jpg)
Then a mix of gunze H338 (very light grey) et a littlle bit od H45 (blue)
then a very diluated coast of white:
I work with blueish colors because I wanted to do contrast in white fabric without give a dirtyness impression.
mus and weathering will come later..

Très beau, mon ami! I love the structure of the Aviatik. Makes me want to build mine.

Gorgeous! Excellent beginning to the painting process!
RAGIII

Hi everybody!
Aviatik's some news...
downside now.
I started with a grey base, and after the never ending taping work i get that (using Tamiya's XF-52 dark earth)
I choose this decoration :
This picture is taken in March of 1916 during the somme battle.
I like those early aviatik because they were the cross in the top of the wings.
I will perhaps use this to represent the dragon cavalier...
My first malta crosses!
just after I did this work I discovered a new picture of this plane.
just to see that the crosses in downside were not in the top of the wings...
I decided not to correct this error, too much work!
Then I went on with the radiator.
Most of Aviatik C.1 had the radiator up on the engine , just under the wing
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2018/08/20//18082009104323469215854881.jpg)
But as we can see in this pic, it is not the plane I represent case. Early Aviatik were equiped with "Hazet" Radiator in both side of the fuselage.
I had to scratch it
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2018/08/20//18082009104323469215854883.jpg)
Here is final result:

As true as it is we shouldn't forget that this is an old, oop CSM resin kit that was produced when Copper State Models still had their location in Texas and was run by totally different people. It has nothing to do with the today's strandards of Copper State Models...

Exactly! This was one of Eric Hight's early kits and for the time, was pretty good. It has no more in common with today's CSM than Merlin has with WNW.

Hi ,
there is a while i didn't post anything...
Meanwhile a learn the picture plane was not en early aviatic C1 as I thought , but an Aviatic BII...
the principal change is the engines but BII was not armed and there is a few diferences in the ringing.
Other consequence, the diorama i thought with those figs is no more possible...
So i will return to the first idea with one of the dragons who appears in the picture...
I will use a 1939 Polosh cavalry and this head a figurinist friend of mine did for me (thanks Aitor!)

This picture give quite informations.
1) I change my minfd about the wooden stick i painted ? i think they are more surely black.
i use a plotter and cit 0.5mm tires in black chaterton...

2) the tire are light grey... but I can touch the wheels so i will let them in black...
3) there is a electricity generator in the undercarriage.
i will use the G4 one.
4) the propeler is a Reschke (thank you andreas).

i find in the net an Albatross BII propeler wich have the same engine than the aviatic BII, props were surely the same.

i will try to do it in wood, we will speak about that later....

Great update Xan, it's really looking good and almost completed. It's too bad that you have to change plans for the Diorama but your new plan looks good. Great weathering overall but particularly on the under surfaces. I like the effect, it's a very nice model. 8) 8)

ooking outstanding ! Your work is always top notch!

Hi friends!
It has been a long wile since I post last message ...
The reason has been quite simple: 30 after the mast picture posted on 6 of november there was another one i didn't post here:
so i put all in a box, and did another mount (the ni-17) and wait for better times...
The kit was surely cursed and i manage to drop the boox again!!!
In Basque Country, tenacity is a main value ;-)
So i started again; it was no more kit building but restauration!

Show must go on!
next step will be now to give this model a real wooden propeler. First time for me!
Xan

Truly magnificent work, Xan! I'm so glad you didn't give up on this beauty. She's going to be a true masterpiece.
Cheers,
Bud

Good to see that bird is able to fly again. Hats off for your patience to restorate the mess.
Bye,
Manni
-
Xan, what a pity, two accidents are too much!!!
By the way you are (as usual) making a great job in recovering the model, and if possible it looks even better than before the accidents!
Antonio
-
That is an AMAZING save! You have rebuilt this to an even higher level!
RAGIII

How good to see this cursed white devil back in its beauty, Xan! Congratulations on a great recovery.

Good to see that bird is able to fly again.
Perhaps I won't try again at once...
Thanks all friends for your nice comments!
I could at last stat the last step, make a wooden prop.
I usually do french palnes wich propelers were painted with tonkylaque, this german plane give me the ocasion to try it. All the wooden prop I saw were done at 1/32 and I wanted to see if it was possible at 1/48...
so let's go:
The propeler is a Reschke
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2019/03/08//19030808323823469216149940.jpg)
après importation de cet image sur le logiciel de dessin vectoriel silhouette studio ou un autre peu importe, on obtient cela:I importes theis picture and did the drawing i a vectorial drawing software (silhouette studio in this case)
Then i put at the right scale
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2019/03/08//19030808323923469216149942.jpg)
I buy marquetry wood (0.5mm wood sheet)
Then i used the plotter (cameo silhouette)
have to be carefull taking the prop parts off
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2019/03/08//19030808323923469216149944.jpg)
all is ready
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2019/03/08//19030808324023469216149945.jpg)
glue with white glue
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2019/03/08//19030808324023469216149946.jpg)
then started:
(https://scontent.fvit1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/53905698_592032031265668_2813782596306075648_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&_nc_ht=scontent.fvit1-1.fna&oh=4528beb78c8b952accf3fe79c0dcd50f&oe=5D173587)
first try was not so good, but i saw it works...
second try was better:
here is the prop logo
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2019/03/10//19031010152723469216152436.jpg)
Borsos indicate me Lf models did it at 1/48; thank you Andreas!
Then i pass a raw sienna oil paint layer varnish and here is the result
(https://nsm09.casimages.com/img/2019/03/10//19031010152523469216152434.jpg)
Not that bad!

Xan,
Beautiful prop, hard to believe it's your first try! Your recovery from the second incident/accident is most impressive, as RAG III has said it looks even better then before the "crash". Great modelling and my compliments for a great recovery. 8) 8) 8)
Cheers,
Lance

Fantastic work and admired your restoration when I (like most, I suspect) would have lost heart. Nice work on scratchbuilsing the prop, also.
Cheers

Cheers,
