Brussels Halberstadt update

Well hot off the press is the situation with the Halberstadt CV in the Brussels Air Museum as of yesterday afternoon.
I last visited this museum seven years ago and it must be said that progress is very slow.

The aircraft is sitting on it's undercarriage minus wheels and wings, the wings sit in racks awaiting covering with replacement fabric. No information is displayed next to the aircraft so it is impossible to say what timescale if any, there is for completion.

When I first saw this aircraft it was in a dilapidated state but fully assembled and probably the only surviving WW1 aircraft in an unrestored state.

Well, I have to say that "paint-age-effect" freak that I am, I am tempted to do a build of it in just this state. You know, sitting out in a field with birds' nests between the ribs, dandelions growing out of the cowling...that sort of thing. So, Dave, thanks very much for posting..it really appeals to the Mad Artist in me!

A couple of questions, if I may:

- Are there in circulation, or do you have any photos of it before the original fabric was stripped from the wings showing the fabric in a really "tired" state?

- Has an ID of the original number been made and have photos of it in its original,flying state been found? (I'm still new to the WWI scene, at least in this incarnation.)

-Re: the strips of fabric that remain....I assume these are bits that were beneath the exposed portions and, as such, have retained their original vibrancy. So, was the original lozenge really that vibrant?

So, was the original lozenge really that vibrant?

I think our resident flugzeugstoff guru Richard W. Andrews (bstachel) will give a resounding "ja!." He describes the original stuff as "garish."

(I don't know if the fabric in the photos is original or not, however.)

Too bad there is no Halb. C.V kit in 1/32... would be a great surprise release from WNW, eh?

   Thanks for posting these and the Gotha Engine photos, Dave. The traces of original colours are fascinating, and these artifacts must be really impressive when viewing them in person. Great stuff!
