Albatros D.III (1/72, Roden, Part, Eduard)
« on: November 21, 2023, 03:45:19 AM »
The time has come for a new project.
I plan to build a model of Albatros D.III used in Polish 8. Flying Squadron in Summer 1919. The a/c is unusual because of its unique Polish cockade markings similar to the Danish ones combined with not-replaced German crosses.

The model will be based on the Roden kit. I have already prepared the fuselage halves to accept the Part PE internal truss.

The engine will be Eduard resin Mercedes originally dedicated to their Fok D.VII but then, it is the same engine.

I’m watching also Prze. I’m interested in seeing how well the Part etch internals fit. I’ve used several Part sets but not an entire framework like that.

Very interesting scheme. And a tiny build! This will be a pleasure to watch.

Great start.

Really looking forward to following this thread, and it's inspiring to see the way you alternate between scales!

Having fun with tiny PE bits from Part. And quite positive about the odds to fit it all inside the Roden fuselage - yes, it has been substantially shaven and thinned from the inside.

Fantastic, Prze. Photo-etch seems to have come a long way since the turn-of-the-century Eduard stuff I remember... and that Mercedes is impossibly detailed, considering it's about the size of the nail on my little finger.

Looking forward to this one :)

If I remember correctly from my build of one of the Roden Albies, you'll need to be careful with that upper cowling / cockpit coaming fit. Recommend some thinning will be needed :)

Cheers,

Thank you, all.

Brad, thanks for the heads up. I have actually built two Albatri with Part interior. Yet this time I plan to leave the metal covers off, as in the photo of the original. The work on it is just begun  :)

I also plan to insert the scratch built fuel/oil tank assembly
