Batesyboy`s introduction
« on: March 05, 2015, 08:20:05 AM »
Hi there everyone,
I design, repaint / retexture dual purpose paper models.
The dual purpose is that they can be made as static models, or converted in to flying models.
I originally developed a technique of printing on to tissue paper, using a colour photocopier,
After about five years of practice, i wrote an artical for aeromodeller, funny how three other magazines
made the same discovery the following month !
The stick and tissue modellers view me as a heretic, as my models are tissue paper spraymounted on to 2mm
white insulation polystyrene foam.
The scale purists will also view me as a heretic, as sometimes i divert slightly from scale to get a successful flying model...
anyway, enough `rabbit` here are a few pictures of my recent work...i generally stick to ww1, but my techniques
are equally applicable to all flying models...
Cheers Batesyboy

Hello and welcome to the forum, so nice to see you here. That is a very interesting introduction you have written and I look forward to seeing more of your techniques, the two models shown are excellent.

Hi there,
both featured models are built to `peanut scale`
This is a class of flying models with a maximum wingspan of 13 inches.
I guess they would be described as scratch-built,
The only part bought prefabricated was the `Peck polymers,` plastic propellor on the Martinsyde G102 Elephant.
the `prop` on the Pfalz was made with a turned balsa spinner and `yoghurt` pot blades, covered in printed tissue.

I have added a picture with the datafile book to give you an idea how big ol` Tinsydes is !

Cheers

Here are a few more Pfalz DIIIa photos (sorry about the quality)
The darker fuselage version unhappilly got squashed (it was an 18 inch wingspan model)

Apparently the Pfalz DIIIa and DIII are amongst the most difficult types to get to fly in a convincing manner,
The !8 inch model flew quite well hence building the second one.
I have added slight dihedral for stabilty, other than the props, everything else is to a constant scale..

Cheers

Welcome aboard, Batesyboy!  Your rubber powered models are awesome!  Never before have I seen such realistic flying models.  Brilliant.
Cheers,

Batesyboy,
You wouldn't happen to have any video of these planes flying, would you? I'd love to see these in action.

Thanks,
George

Hi George,
Unhappilly, I`ve missed the last two flying club meetings due to other commitments,
but i will see what i can organise soon.

Here is another use for my artwork...card models at 1/144th scale, wings of war/glory  models for the board game
sitting on my lap top.

cheers
