After 6 months it's now ready to be unveiled - the Avro 504
This is my 4th scratchbuild in 1/32 scale. I have used a Taurus Oberursel U.0 engine converted to a Gnome Lambda Monosoupape, a CSM pilot figure, a few Gaspatch turnbuckles, some Archer transfers, and Airscale instrument decals. Everything else is made from elemental parts of styrene, wood, and metal.
Build thread here: https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=11451.0
I have attempted to portray Avro 504 number 398 as it was flown by 2/Lt. CW Wilson and observer Rabagliatti on August 25, 1914, when Rabagliatti shot down a German Taube with his rifle to claim the RFC's first air to air victory.

To think it came from nothing! It would be amazing if it would have been a Wingnuts kit!

That is so spectacular Ken and a stunning model of a very important subject in WW1 aviation history.
The figure nicely adds realism to the subject and the overall look of the model is one of great accuracy.
Thank you so much for sharing this gem with the Forum members. World class scratchbuilding!

Absolutely stunning work, Ken. I've always had an interest in the 504K after seeing the example they had at The Shuttleworth collection, and afterwards building the Airfix kit. Your model is an amazing replica of the real thing. I'm beyond words.
Cheers,
Gary

Thank you for all the splendid comments, my friends. Its been a long road, but all my scratchbuilds are. I can now put it in my display case and look at it every day.
I am looking forward to see what Roden does with an Avro 504K, and what the builders here on this forum can do with one, with the many different schemes that are possible.

That is a beautiful model, with all those details, materials and fine painting!
Those old struts (earlier generation biplanes) have it's own charm.
Cheers,
Frank

That is another amazing model from your workshop, Ken. And together with the entire build log it will be a great treasure to us all who will tackle the promised Roden release, like a thorough walk-around. Thanks a lpt for sharing this beauty.

The build log was a pleasure to follow and was extremely informative and instructive. Watching you find solutions to the many problems was also a joy and the resulting model demonstrates a rare level of skill. That is truly a winner of a model nd one which I would be very proud to have in my display case. That it is an early 504 makes it all the more interesting to me. Many tahnks for allowing us to follow you on an incredible and exhillarating journey.
Stephen.
