With the WNW W.12 finished and out of the way, I'm ready to get started on the CSM FK.8. I'm ready, but the kit is not. Not here yet. However, I do have the beautiful resin 160 hp Beardmore that comes with the premium kit, so I'll get going on that.
Both versions are on the way, but I plan on first building the mid-production version, B-5773, the aircraft on which Lt. Alan Arnett McLeod won his Victoria Cross.

Just made the basic start on the engine. Crank case and cylinders.

More soon.
Cheers,

Bud, the Beardmore engine looks very good already! I can`t wait to get the FK 8 as well - I`ll start it as soon as I`ll get it to keep you company ;)
Keep up the good work and the updates coming ;)

Great pre-arrival start, cannot wait to see your magic worked on this one.
-
Great choice of subjects Bud; this is the scheme I'd build if it were in my scale. Another Canadian schoolboy's idol who died for King and Country before he turned 20. RIP.
I'll be following your Build closely.
Cheers,
Lance
-
As usual Bud you set the bar very high - and that is just with the engine! Will be following this with interest.
Stephen

It will be an other gem in your collection.
I will watch with interest.

Terri
Yep, still am, T!
The photo etch in this kit is quite extensive and gorgeous. Three pe sheets in various materials and thicknesses for specific purposes. One of the areas where this kit really shines.
Here I'm assembling the Lewis ammo drum boxes. Fiddly, but well worth the effort.
All would be interior wood bits removed and cleaned up, ready for paint.
Base coat of Model Master Modern Desert Sand applied.

Excellent start, Bud! I'm looking forward to your next update

Well done Bud,
Love the look of this kit... can't wait to see it progress :)
Guy

Thanks so much, guys! The engine is nearly finished. Just have to add the carburetor linkage and the ignition harness and a bit more weathering. Or maybe not. I believe on this one, I'll have the cowling closed up. Not sure yet.
I've also completed the interior wood work and have begun painting and assembling the office. Before putting it all in there, I have to add the wire bracing.
This being Mother's Day weekend, I doubt I'll get much done, but I'll try.
Cheers,
Bud

Gorgeous engine and internals, Bud! Wire shading on the CDL , good idea!
Jörg
-
Well done Bud! The kit seems like a lot of fun I can`t wait to get mine next week! Keep up the good work.
-
Looking beautiful Bud. That engine looks to be larger than 1/48 due to the detail of it. Happy Mother's Day to the women in your life.

This is a wonderful start Bud, it all looks awesome. Looks like a great kit.
Best regards

Excellent progress, Bud!
And a great idea with preshading the interior sidewalls beneath the rigging, hope you do not mind if I copy it. ;)

Very nice progress Bud. I am glad for you, 48th scale builders, that after the WNW golden era for 32nd scale your time has finally come, too, to get some really fine, new (and enviable) models released. Enjoy this and bring us more of your fine modelling work to admire!
-
Thank you for the kind comments, my friends! Been putting in a lot of time at work lately, so bench hours have suffered. Still plodding along, though. Fuselage halves are ready to go together.
And the instrument panel is finished, ready to go into place.
These instrument decals are the best and most forgiving I've ever used. I had no problem positioning them exactly where I wanted them and even the tiniest is clear and readable.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Outstanding work on an outstanding model. Looking really good.
-
Great start Bud, I really love your progress. To preshade the rigging is a really clever idea. I'll follow closely from now.
Andreas

Excellent work on the internals Bud and the instrument panel is a real gem.

That is some fine work brother. That kit is so nice. I can't wait til the early version is released.

Thank you, guys! Much appreciated!

Your wish is Edgar's command, Scott!

Progressing slowly but surely. This is no shake and bake, but it's a superb kit nonetheless.
Wings and tail surfaces are not glued. Just test fit. Again, tolerances are very tight, but these wings will be solid as a rock.
The cowling is a lot of work, but the result is very fine and true to scale.
Next update, engine fully enclosed. Maybe on the next one, I'll leave the cowling off.
Cheers,
Bud

Wow, Bud! Amazing progress and a whole lot of very, very useful tips! Thank You for your diligent and informative blogging! This is one kit I must build someday after seeing you lovely work... Regards, Marc.

This is another mini-masterpiece Bud. The standard that you set is surely one which the rest of us can aim for. Wonderful descriptions too - so helpful for reference purposes.

Thank you all for your kind comments! That cowling fought me every step of the way. In fact, it took me three tries to get it to where it is now. Edgar thinks I can do better, but I'm going to leave it. I want to move on so I can finish the early and late versions before Christmas.
Preshading on the lower surfaces and the fuselage.

Wonderful work as ever Bud. You certainly seem to be able to build these quicker than I can make a model.

I'll probably do the FK8 early or the Caudron next. Or maybe a Camel or an Ansaldo. Too early to say at the moment, Nigel. Sorry.
Got some color on her, such as it is.

Hey, Edgar! What's up?! Sorry progress has been so slow, but things have been pretty busy around here lately.
Thanks for your kind remarks, my friends. Here's where she stands at the moment. The top wing is just resting in place to make it look like a biplane. Gotta add all the little pe rigging attach points before gluing the wing.
Earlier, I took some pics of the top wing just sitting on the center section struts to show how good the fit is.

Fantastic as usual me old buddy. I started mine (early) this weekend. I see you as Des didnt have to notch the frame door the trim wheel wires. I made mine uneccessary complicated as per usual. Keep up the great work

Great PC10
Guy

What the others have written - that looks superb and the colours spot on.
Stephen.

Thank you, guys! This really is a joy to build.
Just finished adding all of the wing rigging anchor points. I had painted them on the fret, but all the cutting and bending caused most of the paint to chip off, so I had to repaint them in situ and reopen some of the holes. Initially, I had considered not using them and just rigging using my usual technique, but I'm glad I changed my mind. I like the way they look.
Just getting started:
Finished:

Now, the top wing and rigging! Yay!
Cheers,
Bud

These anchor points Look incredible, Bud, a good choice to use them!
Andreas
-
Great nice details and paintjob inside the fuselage and a clean and perfect built.
I`m jealous, I want to have this kit on my workbench. The photoetched parts of the rigging anchors are unbelieveable fine.
Wow.
-
The patience that you must have to manipulate those pieces into shape is something that I envy. They have really added something very different to the model - a real enhancement. This is turning into a very interesting build indeed.
Stephen.
-
The PE anchor points look great as does the painting and decaling! Lovely work as always Amigo!!
RAGIII
-
looking super sweet bud. love this kit.
-
Great update Bud! Glad that you decided to use the anchor points - they really make your life easier. I thanked Edgar for them, all the time when I was rigging the Caudron ;)

Thank you for your kind comments, guys! She's now a biplane!

Terrific progress Amigo! One thing I like about your PC 10. In one photo it looks greenish but given different lighting it is Chocolate! Perfect PC 10 8)

Only just slightly larger than a Pup (in 1/32 scale). ;)

Thanks, Guy! I would love to see WNW use these, as well. They're standard with all the Copper State plastic kits. Really makes rigging a lot easier.
Cheers,

First two rigging lines intalled. Did I say I love this kit?

Looking good Bud, she is turning out to be quite a looker. :D
-
So my favourite part has just begun for you, Bud! Great progress mate!
BTW lovely Pup you`ve got there. I think you`ve chosen one of my all time favourites schemes for your Puppie ;) ;)
When it comes to the size of the kit, I have no kits in 32nd scale so it`s quite large for my standards ;)
-
Looking great Bud! I have a question about the PE rigging points How are they secured? My fear has always been that when I put tension on the line the bond would break. One reason I haven't started my SPAD 7 using the Eduard PE.

HI Bud:
Just went through your build log on this kit. Top notch work Bud; interior is nicely done and looks complete, paint work is nice and smooth, like the color as well; I will have to get a tin of that. Too bad you can't see your engine, but I like the "finished" look of it all buttoned up. It is kind of an ungainly looking airplane, but still a neat one. Will be following along as you complete the project.
-
Thank you, Mark! Sorry to be so late in responding, but I've spent nearly every free moment working on this baby and finally got her finished.
Here she is. More in the completed section.
