WNW Albatros DVa

I have frequently heard mention that there is some sort of problem with the spinner provided with the kit. Can anyone elaborate on this.

The spinner as supplied is too point and deep. As with all things Albatros I will direct you to Bos' Build. Hopefully he will chime in with a link to the proper page in his build log.

Yeah IMO the WNW spinner is too long, pointy and just plain looks terrible. Spinner shapes are elusive though... See any Bf 109G discussion for endless handwringing on the same subject.

If you care to do something about it, the Roden spinner is much better, so canibalizing that is an option. The kit part can also be re profiled with a healthy dose of elbow grease. My solution was to form a replacement from pewter sheet. Here is the link but I doubt most people will care to follow me down this crazy path :) :

I'd recommend padding the inside out with milliput or similar before venturing on the sand it down rounder path. My first eneded up looking crumpled like it had nosed down as the plastic got so thin it folded. Basically you have to round off the tip though I imagine more than one fabrikwerk produced spinners for Albatros & OAW respectively & they came in varous slightly different profiles. Still I too do believe WNW's is to pronouncedly pointified  ::)

So, one try at a fix might be to sand it down until one can see light thru it from the rear, all the while not getting too thin? Maybe that's just a compromise?

Thanks gents for the info and the input for a fix. Based on everyones input, I think I will either try to do a resin cast of a Roden spinner or machine a new aluminum spinner. I will post my final solution for those that are curious.

Just finished looking at the WNW Archive Photos. Now I am not so sure that the Spinner is incorrect for some of  the OAW versions? Also Look at Photo # 18. Does Roden Have the Undersurface rib effect correct or what?

I had asked him more than once about that - but I is not inclined towards this kind of effort. Bad luck for the rest of us though.
