If you print the decals Edgar I will use them on my build, it would make a unique looking model.

what? what? what? you don't read my post?
there will be two models!
about the decorations there is work to be done. This picture is not enough because we can't see the wings an there was a lot of kind of representation of the soviet star.
it's not sure the fuselage star was black
I have a russian friend and I can ask him to loock for other pictures and informations

Des, I am really looking forward to following your build on the
SM.1. True, it will be a different experience for you, but I have no
doubts that with your talents it will result in a typical gem, my friend.
Cheers,
Ernie

Thanks guys and gals for all your comments, the build will start soon, I am still in the process of cleaning and washing parts, some of the parts are very tiny and require careful handling.

Work has commenced on this model by firstly building the engine. The engine for this aircraft is a Salmson 9A2c water cooled 9 cylinder radial. CSM have done a great job with the parts for this engine with the resin parts being done in a very dark grey. PE parts for the rocker assemblies are also included, I added 0.25mm brass wire for the push rods. I still need to add the ignition leads and to paint the spark plug. As can be seen by the photo with the match the engine is quite small. All the photos I have seen of the original aircraft show the exhaust manifold as a white/ish colour.

And you claim to be no 48scale modeller! This beauty proves you wrong, you actually are a great 48scale modeller!

Brilliant work on the engine, Des! I agree with Borsos. This engine now officially makes you a 1/48 scale modeler!
Cheers,
Bud

Off to a great start as always, Des. The engine is a beauty, crisp detail and lots of it with superb painting as well! I'm looking forward to watching you complete this one, a very unique and interesting subject.
Cheers,
