Next up on my workbench is the WNW Roland DVIa. I will be using the new cookie cutter lozenge from Aviattic and Gaspatch machine guns. I will be portraying Jungwirth's blue Roland with the speculative butterfly on the fuselage sides.

Really Nice start! Looking forward to your build!

Looking forward on seeing how this turns out ....

There is much speculation on the coloring of this Roland based on the one photograph in the WNW instructions and the Jack Herris book. I am going to use the lozenge on the undersides of the wings in lieu of the possible light blue coloring.
-
Hello to all,
Nice work, I'm going to follow your build. I did it, a lot of pleasure.
Best regards.
Alain.
-
Great start, Kreston. The D.VIa is a great looking
aeroplane and I look forward to seeing yours take
shape. Nice work on the cockpit! :)
Cheers,

Lovely work on the cockpit Kreston, looking forward to seeing further update on this model.

Haven't posted in a while but still have been plugging away...lower wing covered with Aviattic lozenge and fitted temporarily and fuselage base coated in blue. I will be adding washes of W&N Indigo oil paint to pop the details and then give it a bit of weathering.

Your build is very nice.

Coming together very nicely Kreston, the Aviattic decals look great.

Working on the fuselage washes and getting some of the details to "pop".

More inspiration. I've just started mine. I'm having a Rolanduary, with a DVI and CII.
-
Haven't had a lot of free time for modeling as of late but I did manage to work on fitting the GasPatch Spandau guns to my Roland. Just a bit of trimming away some resin and the guns seated right in place. GasPatch has done a first rate job with their machine guns.

That is a very fine update Kreston.
Martin
-
Thanks for that tip about the cowls!
-
Hello Kreston!!!
Magnificent looking build!!! I'm not sure what I prefer Gaspatch vs. Master :D I think I like the jacket from Master better but I like Gaspatch body :D First world problem I know ;) I only have Vickers and Lewis from Gaspatch now... guess I will try the others soon - hopefully :)
Happy modelling
Lukas

After some sanding, cutting, and scraping I managed to get the cowlings to fit. More of an issue than I thought it would be. Still have to add some oil washes and paint to get the details to pop.

very nice work. Strange to hear of fit issues with a WNW kit?
-
Looks great, Kreston.
Chris
-
Really looking good there - love the blue fuse with the lozenge wings
-
Thanks for the comments! The Aviattic lozenge is just great to work with...highly recommended!

Looks very good.

More progress...slowly but surely...

Tail is in place but still needs another wash or two with Indigo oil paint, followed by a spray of glosscote, to match the fuselage. I am using GasPatch turnbuckles for the first time and you can see one of the first four I have in place.

A couple of pics at the workbench showing off Aviattic's wonderful lozenge.

Very good to all details Kreston.
Martin

Excellent work all around! The Aviattic Lozenge looks terrific!
RAGIII
-
It's such a pretty, delicate good fitting model. I loved it.
-
Outstanding work on the painting and lozenge application, Kreston! She's really looking sharp. By the way, where did you get that jig?
Cheers,
Bud
-
The jig is from a company called Vertigo. I wouldn't recommend ordering from them though....the jig came missing the piece which holds the tail of the aircraft. I have been emailing them constantly for a replacement and keep getting jerked around.
-
More decal work. The white really stands out but will look better after weathering.

Very, very nice Kreston.

Sweet !
Terri
-
Fantastic work Kreston! What paint did you use for the blue?
Mike
-
I like what you are doing with the blue and the markings look great!
RAGIII
-
Thanks for the comments!
For the blue I started with Misterkit French roundel blue and added a bit of Vallejo flat blue to darken it. When the acrylics dried I gave it several washes of Windsor & Newton Indigo oil paint letting each wash dry before applying the next. When that was finished I applied a final wash of an oil paint called Sepia Extra. After the decal work is finished I am going to try some new weathering techniques which I will post here.
-
A little more progress...decals and GasPatch turnbuckles.

Beautiful work on the fuselage painting and decal application, it certainly is a very attractive scheme.

Beautiful work, Kreston! I really like the paint scheme and you are making
a superb job of it!
Cheers,

Upper wing attached and still needing to paint some of the radiator details. All rigging points in place and ready for EZ line after weathering.

Looking forward to your next update :)

Almost calling it finished! Rigging completed using EZ Line and a combination of GasPatch and Bob's Buckles. This is only my 3rd WNW (and WWI) kit...the first two being DVII's. Once I was underway the rigging was not quite as daunting as I had imagined and not only did I learn the true virtue of patience but also many things I can take forward into my next build. Here are a couple of quick pics.

She's gorgeous, Kreston. Causing me to consider this scheme for mine.
