Hi friends,
I´m trying to build this wonderful kit - thank you Edgar and CSM for this little gem, it´s like a refreshment in WW I modeling.

Started with the engines, pushrods and wiring still to be added
(http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j127/j-galler/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120338_zpsf0w9he07.jpg) (http://s79.photobucket.com/user/j-galler/media/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120338_zpsf0w9he07.jpg.html)
Cockpit painted with some acrylics and oilcolors

some minor filling and sanding was necessary at floats and nacelles
(http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j127/j-galler/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120344_zpsqfarpsu3.jpg) (http://s79.photobucket.com/user/j-galler/media/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120344_zpsqfarpsu3.jpg.html)

in my opinion the wings trailing edges are too thick a bit, so there was a little milling and sanding
(http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j127/j-galler/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120353_zpslfiyfie3.jpg) (http://s79.photobucket.com/user/j-galler/media/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120353_zpslfiyfie3.jpg.html)
here the results (still to be smoothed...)

Hi Jörg, wonderful selection on your part and a great start. Looking forward to your progress (I like the look of the seaplane better than the land based one, just my opinion).
-
You have made a great start on a great kit Jörg, the cockpit area looks really good and the thinning of the wing trailing edge is a good idea, gives a more realistic look. I will be following your build with great interest.
Des.
-
Thank you, Juan, Des and Edgar!
Edgar, I didn't notice that gap on the photos of the museum Caudron. But surely you are right, I will correct this!
Kind regards
Jörg
-
Thank you Edgar, I know, the cockpit isn't still finished. Hope I can post some photos of the final result in the next days 😉
Jörg
-
Nice work on those wings, Jorgo. Like Des mentioned - it looks much more realistic.
Cheers,
Gary
-
Really great start! The interior looks superb. Nice work on thinning the trailing edges on the wings!
RAGIII
-
This looks like a wonderful kit, and you've made a great start. Definitely a good idea to thin the rear of the wing.
Ian
-
You're off to a spectacular start on this brilliant kit, Jörg! This one is very high up on my to do list.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Wow, Jorg! This kit is one I was really hoping to see built, you are doing a magnificent job of it! I will definitely be following along... Regards, Marc.
-
another reference , super!
I start mine at the end of january....
Xan
-
Excellent work ,jörg! Not so sure about the gap between the upper wing's sections..imo rather a visible connection-seam than a gap.
cheers
Matz
-
Many thanks for your kind comments!
The Caudron´s footrests were aluminium or something like this, I copied that from parts of a pill blister.
(http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j127/j-galler/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120354_zpsttqbbgmf.jpg) (http://s79.photobucket.com/user/j-galler/media/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120354_zpsttqbbgmf.jpg.html)

weathered with oilpaints, the footrests in the front brushed with Vallejo steel Air metallic. I noticed that these airbrush colors are very fine and can be handbrushed without Problems.

Hi, Matz
gap or seam - anyway, I was wrong to fill it, and sure it´s not a kit issue

Only just seen this - and i was unaware of the floatplane variant. Good job I decided not to attempt that or I would still be building mine now!
The amount of detail that you have in the cockpit is just amazing - the difference between 1/72 and 1/48 is much larger than I sometimes realise. Looking forward to seeing this one progress.
Stephen.
-
Great job on the kit!!! I`m going to follow your idea with the footrests! Keep up the good work!
-
Superb work Jorgo.
I have one of each of the variants and as soon as I have finished a current big project one of the Caudrons will muscle its way through the stash to be the next new build.
Best wishes
Nigel
-
Great job so far on the cockpit and observers station, very nicely painted and detailed.
Des.
-
Terrific interieur, Jörg.
Love it.
I hope, CS will do this kit someday in 1:32nd.
Manni
-
Hi Jörg,
sorry for being late in commenting although the Caudron is one of my favoured. Very nice start on this. I especially like your work on the trailing edges and the footrests.
And I can only support this:
I hope, CS will do this kit someday in 1:32nd.
Manni
Edgar could ease the time until then by letting us know what CSM's exciting 1/32 in progress French project is... ;)
When I was at Le Bourget I took quite an amount of pictures of the Caudron G IV. If they could be of any help, I can send them to you, Jörg. Just let me know!
Borsos
-
Terrific interieur, Jörg.
Love it.
I hope, CS will do this kit someday in 1:32nd.
Manni
......and I second both of Manni's comments. I think a 1:32 version would sell like the proverbial hotcakes! :o 8)
Cheers,
Lance
-
As stated by others, gorgeous interior/build thus far. Will look forward to your progress.
-
Awesome ! Will have to remember the blister pack idea .
Terri
-
Super nice looking interior! You also did a great job making the wings look thinner & in-scale.
Steve

Thanks a lot for your kind comments!
Some instruments from Eduard added and a map (a decal from WNW Rumpler kit):

(unfortunately I lost the left PE part on the rudder bar...)
Radio Equipment (as Edgar mentioned in the kit´s booklet: it´s not for sure wether Radio Equipment was used or not on Caudron hydravion. I just like it)

That is a beautiful office you've built there, Jörg! So much in such a tiny space!
Cheers,
Bud

The cockpit is coming along beautifully.
Des.

I agree the cockpit looks extremely well!
-
Ditto all the above compliments !!
Ed
-
That is looking really sweet so far !
Terri
-
Top notch as usual,Jorgo!
-
Spectacular interior, Jorgo! You are building a fabulous model, I am certain!
-
Your pit is outstanding. The small additions like the Map are really enhancing the overall appearance.
RAGIII
-
Beautiful work on the cockpit Jorgo, I'm following this with great intrest as I have the landplane version of this at home.
Cheers,
Tony.

Thank you for your interest and your kind words, and thank you Edgar for your support!
Jörg

Nicely done Jörg,
I think I've got this one on its way to me, so will watch with interest.

Great! Was the lacing common to all G4's? I think I haven't seen it on the one at Le Bourget.
-
What an awesome Job on the wings and the cowling, Jörg, I am deeply impressed!
Borsos
-
Impressive added detail!
RAGIII
-
Nice one! I was just thinking about doing just the same with my model to replicate the stitching!
-
Awesome detail. You must have a lot of patience and a steady hand, just beautiful.
-
That stitching is just incredible. I thought of trying to add it on my model but gave up the idea when I realised that it as just too small, but it is an important feature on these aircraft.
Stephen.
-
Looking good! Love the seat & stitching!
Steve
-
Amazing work with the stitching detail, adds a lot of realism to the model.
Des.
-
beautiful work all around Jorg. That stitching just tops it all off nicely! I wonder if it can be done in 1:72.....
Ian
-
That stitching is incredible Jorg. I had to really work at getting it done to an acceptable result in 1:32 Scale on my recent Nieuport Build, you've pulled it off masterfully in a smaller scale and it looks perfect, nicely done! She's looking like a real winner already.
Cheers,
Lance
-
A fine cowling and superb stitching! I am really enjoying this build! ATB Marc

Thank you for your compliments, much appreciated!
Jörg

Thanks for the great idea on the stitching. You showed that it can be done.

looks great mate, keep up the nice work

Hi, friends, another little update
PE on engine nacelles added and prepainted with Alclad steel, engine cowling Alclad alu:

the injection moulded engines are pretty good, you don´t need any aftermarket parts

Cheers,
Jörg

Shame on me, don't know how that could happen... :-\
Thank you Edgar!
Jörg
-
Nice job on the engines and struts,Jorgo!
-
Thank you for your generous offer Edgar!
First I'll try to correct it carefully ;) (don't want to bother you)
Best regards,
Jörg
-
Very nice progress!
Borsos
-
Like what you have done so far. Will be a great looking kit.
-
Just a little progress; I painted the engine cowlings with Tamiya XF 60 (as Filip did) and tried to simulate some
scratches caused by the Mediterranean Sea at St. Raphael naval air station

And then I couldn´t resist and made a dry fit of the wings - it is unbelievable, there will be no jig necessary!
Excellent fitting, congrats to Edgar and CSM!

Cheers,
Jörg
-
Yes, that's right, Edgar 🤗
Highest regards,
Jörg
-
Very well done weathering on the cowlings! The positive fit of the upper wing reminds me of WNW.
RAGIII
-
Hi friends,
put some colors to the wings and completed the stitching - as Filip did. The structure of the models wings is extraordinary good, it´s like a kind of "stressed skin". The first time you can see this on a WWI kit. With such a surface I guess you could achieve a shine through effect by drybrushing instead of airbrushing.

Next step will be to complete and close the cockpit. In the meantime Edgar has sent the get lost (carpet Monster...) PE parts. What a great customer support!
Cheers,

Superb work on the stitching and wing shading, looking forward to further updates.

Truly gorgeous work, Jörg! I sure hope I can achieve something close to this when I do mine.

Very impressive, Jörg. I'm really enjoying following your progress.

Thank you for your kind words!
I think in 1917 the French pilots flew with seat belts so added some spare belts (I know it´s far away from HGW belts...)

That is really going well. BTW from experience of building one of these in 1/72 scale do follow Edgar's advice on adding the nacelle rigging before attaching the top wing.
Stephen.

Truly gorgeous work, Jörg! I sure hope I can achieve something close to this when I do mine.

I have a feeling we'll both realise that ambition Rick; my only concern is how to keep up with all of the neat new stuff coming available..... Camels, Taubes, and the hint of some Caudrons!

Just a small update, sorry for the delay (but in real life sometimes I´ve to work a lot...)
Now all PE´s are fixed to the wings

Jorg - This is amazing work. I really like the subtle paint shifts between the metal work and the other fabric. I keep hovering over "add to cart" on CSM for this kit - you may have helped me push the button.

Hi, friends,
the rigging begins...
some of the materials I use to work with (Albion Alloys brass tube 0.4mm o.d, 0.2mm i.d., sewing thread etc.)
(http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j127/j-galler/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120456_zpsaoyfu2hm.jpg) (http://s79.photobucket.com/user/j-galler/media/Caudron%20G4%20Hydravion/P1120456_zpsaoyfu2hm.jpg.html)
it´s better to fasten most of the rigging before attaching the upper wing

Well this should be interesting. Good work so far Jorg.

Whooof, Jörg. What a fiddly rigging. Very well done. Respect! You're a non-smoker I see ;)
Andreas
-
Outstanding progress! It looks to be complicated but you are handling things with your usual ease!
RAGIII
-
Thank you for your kind words!
Edgar, the metal sheets are much brighter in reality than it appears on the fotos, they are from the PE sheet without any painting ;)
Highest regards,
Jörg

Oh, Jörg.
What can I say? So brilliant build. I love the rigging on the wings. The tailplane with its subtile pinwash and the variation of the overall colours is just great.
Manni
-
Spectacular progress, Jorg. Watching this build makes me regret this model is not released in my scale.
-
well done that man loving the build so far. ;D
-
Spectacular progress, Jorg. Watching this build makes me regret this model is not released in my scale.
But Prez, you have done models in 1/72 also, so is a venture into 1/48 so foreign to work your magic ?
Ed
-
Jorg I really like your work!
The only thing I would change is the size of the turnbuckles - they are way too big for 1/48 th scale. Try using the cotton buds tubes - they are also a way easier to work with ;) The oil pulsators are great!
-
Hello Jörg,
first of all I like very much the way you painted the pilot nacelle, the rain effect is great and i will perhaps try to copy you...
oil level are great too as the "shinethrough" effect. i didn't decide anything yt in mine about this, i have to see more pictures...
Can you tell me more about the roundels? was they hard to install? where have had you to cut them?
last thing , I agree with Xmald about the turnbuckles and will use cotton tube (advantage to be the third one ;-) )
good continuation!
Xan
-
Thank you for your kind and constructive comments!
Certainly you are right about the turnbuckles (macro photos are merciless...), but my attempts stretching Q-tips all went wrong ( must find other cotton buds).
Xan, you can fix the roundels in toto, before they have set finally you can make some cuts with a scalpel beside the ribs, so there will be no difficulties. I used Micro Sol and Set.
Highest regards,
Jörg
-
Beautiful work, really enjoying seeing it take shape!

Cheers,

You are really doing top notch work on this Build, Jorg. I thought the interior, engines etc. were exceptional, and now the exterior turns out in the same class or better. Really nice modelling, it's going to be spectacular!
Cheers,

if you call this a little update how are you big updates!!!
very clean work, congatulation!
you did the hardest!
Xan

Thank you so much, Lance and Xan, much appreciated!
Jörg
-
Wow Jörg, she is turning out quite beautifully. Love what you have done so far.
-
Well, now she´s standing on her floats. Connecting floats with tailplane and wings was a pleasure (after all that rigging...)!
As I said before, no jig is necessary, the kit is extremely well planned by Edgar and CSM. All fits immediately in a correct position.

Jorg, that is truly beautiful and you have done some amazing work! It is turning into a spectacular build... One to cherish and appreciate! Regards, Marc

This is truly an exceptional build!! One that I am using as inspiration for my own ongoing build of this aircraft.
There is one area where I am a bit flustered with. That is the rigging for the control lines that originate in the pilot's nacelle. The diagrams show external views but nothing in there. Did you take any pictures of this area that you might be able to share?
thanks
Rick

WOw@ simply brilliant and you are one quick building bastard mate ;)
I`m green with envy ;)

So thank you much for all the nice words!
@ Rick (desjardi): sorry, I´ve no pictures from the control lines in the cockpit, there are PE parts at rudder bar and control stick, so you have no problems.
