Hi De Hi 8)
Decided to start my Fee lads, so here are a couple of pics of the old Beardmore
to be going on with. It's still a bit tatty around the edges and a lot still to do,
but I thought you might like to see it. Hope you are all well and life is being
good to you.
Cheers lads
Dave
-
That's cracking already!
Looking forward to this one.. What do you use for the wiring?
Guy
-
Hi Guy
Just plain old .005" electrical wiring. The thin stuff from an old speaker cable,
as its braided and only carries a small voltage, thus very thin.
Cheers
Dave
-
Thanks - I'll look for some of that..
Good luck with the rigging!
-
That's way down the track, but I dont mind it now.
Once you have done a few it becomes enjoyable :o
He says . . . . . ;)
Have a good one Guy
-
Great start Dave and a build I am looking forward to following. I have to ask though, what paint did you use for the copper?
Des.
-
Gday Des :)
Just trusty old Tamiya copper, with a wee polish, but
not too much, thinned to about 30% and airbrushed.
Cheers
Dave
-
Great start, Dave. After your Ninack build, I've been looking forward
to another...Thanks for getting back at it so soon!
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
When the bug bites Ernie . . . . ;)
The weather here in NZ is still cool and damp,
so the evenings are the ideal time. Things slow
down a bit from November, when our Summer hits 8)
Cheers Ernie
Dave
-
Great start to your build! I am certainly looking forward to seeing your techniques put to work on this one!
RAGIII
-
Excellent start, Dave! That's one very fine looking Beardmore. Aesthetically, the most beautiful of WWI engines, imho.
Cheers,
Bud
-
It's still a bit tatty around the edges and a lot still to do,
Arghh! I wish all of my engines looked this tatty! Nice work!
Cheers,
Chris
-
Dave,
Great start on the Beardmore; looking forward to another "spectac" from your bench.
Cheers,
Lance
-
Cheers Lads,
I could'nt sit idle for too long, need to keep the old grey matter
going. The research was done and the box just looked at me ;
Have a good one boys 8)
Dave
-
Hello Dave:
Looking good. It is summer here so progress has come to a halt. I still manage a peek at the forums from time to time. Come October it should pick up for me. In the meantime, I will be watching your work on the FEE.
Best
Mark
-
Have a great Summer Mark. NZ gets summer in December.
A wee bit to go yet ;D
Have a good one Mark
Dave
-
Progressed a wee bit further. It's getting fiddly now ;)
I really need smaller fingers and binocular vision . . . .
The engine, like a lot of WNW kits, is a model within
a model . . .
Cheers my friends
Dave
-
I'm sure that you have a shrinking machine... not fair! :P
What a beauty!
That why i love to come here... i'm always surprised with the skill of you guys.
Cheers
-
Beautiful work on the engine Dave, it is looking magnificent.
Des.
-
Wow! What a handsome looking engine, Dave.
Great job on it. Well done!
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Dave,
Terrific Engine! Very nicely detailed!!
RAGIII
-
Dave,
Glad to see you're Fee underway my old friend. Outstanding progress to date. I suspect this latest build will be an adventure in Awesomeness just as your Awesome DH-9 was. Looking forward to the next update for certain.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Hi Guys, Havent done too much, but here is a quick
pic to update the Beardmore. Adde a few lines and
bits, but still more to go.
Have a good one
Cheers
Dave
-
An absolutely superb engine Dave.
Des.
-
The piping looks really good, Dave. The engine looks better
and better. Nicely done!
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Beautiful work on the engine Dave, seriously impressive. If that standard remains throughout the build then this will be one amazing build.
Looking forward to seeing lots more.
Martin.
-
Nice stuff going on there Dave!
-
Beautiful wiring Dave..
Guy
-
Moving house so on the back burner for a couple of weeks . . . .
Cheers
Dave
-
Dave, Does that mean we get some pics of a new model room?
-
If my better half lets me hava a bit (of space that is ;) )
Might get a garage turned into a man-cave . . .
Have a great weekend
Dave
-
Hi Guys,
Did a tiny bit more to the old Beardmore, so should be getting
on with the Fee pretty soon. All the best from NZ
Dave
-
Beautiful work on the engine! STUNNING!
RAGIII
-
Gulp Dave! Amazing. Here's me just thinking about what shortcuts I can make in relation to a different engine. I feel a bit ashamed now.
Best wishes
Nigel
-
Thanks Lads, I really appreciate your comments.
I sometime dont know when to stop, however, its
good to try ;) Must get torn into the plane though.
Have a good one 8)
Dave
-
Dave, your work is awe-inspiring! Simply amazing engine.
You are scary-good! I can't wait for more updates.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
It comes down to patience Ernie ;) Lots of it. I learned to
always, if possible , set aside a bit of time each, or almost,
day to indulge in the good old hobby. It relieves the stress
and keeps the blood pressure down. As long as you dont
loose bits to the carpet monster that is 8).
Thanks Ernie . . . . I am in awe of your build by the way.
Good one Sir
Cheers
Dave
-
Spectacular engine Dave, your attention to detail is absolutely amazing and you have created an engine that looks just like the real thing. I will be following your build very closely when I start my Fe2b.
Des.
-
Cheers Des, only too willing . . . ;)
Its a frightener when you open the Fee's box though . . 8)
Have a good one Des
All the very best
DAVE
-
That's spectacular, Dave!
-
Dave,
Wow what a beauty her engine is my friend. Just add fuel, oil and water for cooling and she's ready to cough to life.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Dave, that donk is brilliant, mate. Absolutely brilliant.
Dal.

Hi Dave
I've been in a deep modeller's funk for the last 4 months or so, and have about half a dozen unfinished kits - including Eduard's Spad and Biff and my long suffering WNW Tripe - on the shelf. But last week I broke out of the doldrums by starting my WNW Fee. Today as the first major autumn storm of the season began to hit Vancouver Island, I splashed a bit of colour on the engine bits and will start bashing them together later in the week.
Dave, that engine is superb and I plan to copy your work shamelessly as best I can. Am looking forward to more pics!
Cheers,
John
-
Dave, just lovely. I just can't believe how these WNW kits lend themselves to additional detailing. I'm guessing PJ is happy to see his products used thusly.
-
Dave the engine looks amazing.
Such u pity to hide it inside the fuselage :( .
Cheers
-
It is great to see this one undertaken again! Beautiful Beardmore, KONG!
-
No Worries Guys. . . . This baby you can see most of it as its in the back of a Fee.
So at least its on show . . . . Will get torn in at the weekend again. The detailing
takes time, but if you pace yourself and you enjoy doing it, then you get the
results . . . . . Also when you get encouragement from your friends then it all
falls into place. Thanks lads, now to have a shuftie at your stuff 8)
All my very best
Dave
-
Got a bit stuck with the old girl . . . Family duties etc. so putting her
on th eback burner, however watch out soon cos . . . Im doing
a Snipe . . . Just started her . . . . to be continued
All the best boys . . the fee will be back
DAve
-
Gonna try and do a bit more of her lads.
Christmas holidays are coming up so time
on my hands until my big vacation in March.
Watch this space, something tomorrow.
cheers
Dave
-
Always anxious to see your talents, Dave. :D
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Stunning engine Dave. Really a beauty for the eye. Many congratulations.
Kind regards
Patrick
-
A picture of my bits to date. Took a look at her the other
night and decided to get some progress made.
Cheers and all the best my friends
DAVE
-
The bits are beautiful, Dave! Your woodwork painting is sublime. I will be
following your build closely for when comes the day I get up enough nerve
to dive into a Fee. Yours will be a great teaching tool, my friend.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Cheers Ernie,
Only too happy to help ;)
I learn a loit from you guys too, its always a pleasure
to look in at your work. Good man. 8)
Have a great day Ernie. Its only 7 in themorning here.
Work calls . . . :D
Cheers
DAVE
-
Lovely work Dave. I've been a bit nervous about embarking on an Fe2b and I'm really looking forward to seeing and learning from you master class.
Best wishes
Nigel
-
Im a bit on the nervous side too Nigel.
All that stuff at the back and its' got to be rigged ;)
Cheers, hava good one 8)
Dave
-
I suppose, that every time when I will be looking at the bits from FE2b by WNW, I will have very pleasant recollection of my work on this kit. I consider this kit their best. And your work on it does full justice to WNW efforts to bring us the best quality. Very fine woodwork, KONG! I am looking forward impatiently to see more progress.
-
Thanks for your confidence, I hope I can do it justice 8)
There are a lot of parts, and I did put it on hold for a while,
however I got itchy fingers . . . ;)
All the best
Dave
-
Excellent wood Dave, it looks very realistic, and the parts line-up is very impressive to say the least, can't wait to see more.
Des.
-
Hello Dave:
I almost pulled this off the shelf before embarking on yet another DVII, love those DVII's you know. Your engine is really the stuff of legend and I will be using your build log as pointers when I do tackle mine. I think when I get through Christmas I will be pulling it off the shelf and starting on it. Winter has kicked in with a vengeance so it will be a nice diversion from the cold and white stuff piling up in the yard.
Outstanding workmanship Dave!
Best
Mark
-
Cheers Mark, down here it's starting Summer, but I know,
coming originally from bonnie Scotland, what all that white
stuff can be like . . . . I'll send you some sunshine in spirit.
I must admit I got so far and looked down the line to the
end of the Fee, and it seemed so far away, hence the Snipe.
But I prefer em' big, and I felt guilty, so I'm in for the duration.
Go for it Mark . . . 8)
Have a good one and stay warm and dry mate
All the very best
Dave
-
Beautiful woodwork on the cockpit parts. This looks very convincing.
Well done.
Stefan
-
Just going to Echo all of the others. Very well done woodwork!
RAGIII
-
Indeed Dave your woodwork is truly magnificent. All this detail --> wonderful!
Kind regards
Patrick
-
Kong the wood work it's so sublime that i bet that wood itself it's envy! ;D
Cheers
-
The sun was shing down here at the weekend, so I didnt do
too much, but here's what I managed.
Have a good week lads.
DAVE
-
This one just looks weird, or is it me? 8)
-
The interior woodwork is looking excellent as we have come to expect/see consistently from your bench!
RAGIII
-
Just a quick note to say that I will be away on Christmas holidays
until the 6th of January, and hopefully I will get some of the old
Fee done. I will be here till Friday, but away for 2 weeks after that.
To all of you lads who cruise this site and have offered me so much
enthusiasm and encouragement over the past year, a Happy Christmas
and and awsome and prosperous New Year. All the very best for 2014

Great work Dave!
The FE is such a strange bird!! In the sim Rise of Flight, flying the beast is like sitting on your front porch and flying your house around! ;D

Next installment, please.

Hi guys
Been a bit lazy these past few weeks, but holiday in sunny Thailand looming
as it does every March, for me and my wife. She loves the culture, so do I.
And I have been working on and engine of a new plane. Yes its WNW, but
more later. I just cant put the bloody thing down, so all else suffers 8)
Back soon chaps . . Have a good one
All the best from sunny New Zealand
Dave ;)
-
Dave I am catching up with your build and I must say it`s amazing - the woodwork looks spot on and the cockpit rocks! ;)
A lot of rigging ahead - what are you going to use for the process? What turnbuckles are you going to use?
PS. I do envy you the Fe2b - the one in 1/48th is high on my wanna wanna list - a hard to find though.
-
HI Filip
I use .1mm invisible nylon thread, smoke coulored for the rigging,
and I make my own turnbuckles from 0.4mm brass tube, 0.2mm
inside diameter, with 0.3mm diameter loops at each end, made from
thin electrical wire. Sometimes I go smaller but not too often. The
fee is a challenge and I am really taking my time on this one. And
its Big! 8) Cheers Filip
Have a good one
DAVE

Where did that come from?
Any guesses lads 8)

Is does it rhyme with tree wage vine?
-
Ooooh . . . . Yep! Give that man a coconut ;)
Clever man Bo. Good one 8)
Got it before Christmas and couldnt leave the damn thing
alone . . . I really need to get a life eh? ;)
-
I know it, too, where from it comes. And I have shamelessly downloaded this photo for the near reference when I will be building mine! Thanks, KONG.

You are most welcome . . . Cheers

Hello Dave:
It looks like you are fiddling with another big winged bird!! The engine looks the business. I have two of these things, not sure why now. It will be neat to follow you along on it when you tackle it. In the meantime, the FEE. I don't know if you have read it or not, but "One Spring in Picardy" by William Stanely will certainly get your FEE juices going.

Thanks for the link Mark. Most appreciated. Yes is anothe deHavilland.
I got a boxful before stocks ran out before Christmas and opened it.
Bloody fatal move, cos' I started the engine, as you can see. and the
Fee and Snipe took a back seat. The Fee will be attacked with a vengeance
after March's vacation, so I should get some progress there.
Take care Mark, all th every best from down here in Middle Earth.
Cheers
Dave
-
I'm not so good at identifying engines, but I know beautiful when I see it!
What a superb job, Dave. The oil/grease treatment is perfect. Wonderful
work, my friend!
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Its a Siddeley Deasy Puma from the new WNW dh9 kit. Couldnt resist
building it before I got back into the Fee.
