I am still waiting for the veneers for the final propeller. But next weekend Fokker is going to debut in a modelling contest so I was forced to prepare a more decent painted version of the propeller. And I took this chance to make a photo session. So here are a couple of shots of my vision of Fokker D.VII from 4. Wielkopolska Squadron flown by Józef Hendricks who made over 50 sorties during his service with this unit fighting against soviets in 1920. In the majority of them he used his personal a/c, adorned with his white initials and numbered 504/18 by Poznań-Ławica air station.

Another Stunning Model Przemo!
RAGIII

That is simply amazing! Perfect!

Amazing work as ever, Prez -
Had you not said, I would have assumed larger scale
Regards
Dave

Classic Prez ....sigh!!

Gorgeous work Prze! You always produce stunning work, and this one is up to your usual standard. I hope you still make a prop out of veneers, and I hope you show us how you do it.

Prze, your temporary props look better than my best permanent one - the icing on a beautiful D.VII cake! And a fascinating piece of history too.
Had you not said, I would have assumed larger scale
Exactly what I thought!

Marvelous !!!

Beautiful "clean" finish Prze, and wonderful detail. I also am impressed to no end with the Lozenge work, particularly well done in this small scale. An impressive model and more so given it's in "God's Scale" as some call it!
Cheers,
Lance

Absolutely amazing work - hard to believe it's 1/72 scale. Fabulous model, Prze!
Cheers,
Gary

What a beauty! And what a beautiful detailing and painting. It' hard to believe that this is in 1/72, until you see the pencil sharpener...
Great!

Lovely!

As always your models look much larger in the photographs than they are in reality. The spoked wheels in particular are exceptionally good. Very many congratulations on another outstanding model.
Stephen.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. I am truly glad that you like this model. For me it is very special, because it is related to the persons and the squadron having roots in my part of Poland, city of Poznań and region of Great Poland (Wielkopolska). 100 years ago they fought bravely in the east in the years after Poland had to protect its freshly regained independence... It seems the history is never really changing, but it is circling all around the same problems... :'(

You have put a lot of careful work into this little beauty and it has paid off.
W o n d e r f u l !

Once again you come up trumps!
Excellent build, Prze!
Cheers,

I showed my wife your photos and she was very impressed. When I scrolled to the images with the pencil sharpener her jaw literally dropped and was utterly stunned. Testament to a magnificent piece of work!!

VERY nice! Hard to believe it's 1/72.

Thank you very much for your comments.
Zac, your wife's reaction is truly an honour for me. My best regards to her!

Beautiful Prez, as always! Great stuff, my hat goes off to you!

Another beauty Prez

Thank you, gentlemen.
And I have finally carved the wooden prop for this little kit. I will be very unmodest and will say that I am very satisfied with the result.
I have used the 3 ply veneer of 0.8mm thickness, sanded one layer to get two sets of 2 plies and combined them with the 3 ply original to get the 7 layer composite. Then some work with a knife and sanding paper... It works!

Very clever Prez
I wanted to carve a new prop and was struggling to get the correct thickness using plywood - I'll use your method. I'm sure you will have mentioned it somewhere else (and apologies if you did) but how did you finish the propeller?
Thanks
Paul
ps I had to keep going back to confirm that this is a 1/72nd scale model! 8)
-
Prze, in the absence of ability to commission you to make props for me this is a very handy piece of reference! What a magnificent prop!! And as DaddyO said: it's still staggering to remember this gem is 1/72!
-
Thanks!

I might have not mentioned it... ;) The carved wooden piece was just sprayed with a mist of Gunze acrylic Clear Orange colour - a few passes to reach the nice warm wood hue. The prop boss is from Part PE, the Axial decals are from the kit.

Brilliant - thanks
(Sanded down the ply so I'll get them glued together and see how it turns out. Carved a lot of props for freeflight models in the past, but this is a bit smaller)

Prze,
Again, you do not fail to amaze with your builds and skills. I've wanted to carve a prop, but have had trouble sourcing veneer the correct thickness.

I found that making this smaller prop is actually easier that the large one for 32nd scale. I think that the problems might occur if one wanted to carve a couple of identical ones for multi-engine aircraft :-)

I got mine from Kotebi. He says this thin plywood is generally available. And I think he can also sell it if you cannot find yours.

A great final touch for a beautiful model Prze. I'm amazed by the quality of shape and finish you've attained in so small a scale, lovely workmanship!
Cheers,
Lance

Thank you, Lance, I am glad you like my little Fokker. ;)
-
You get a good result out of the plywood, but I think if you are going the extra mile to use veneer it will be even nicer. The problem with plywood is the direction of wood grain transverse to the longitudinal axis, but on a air screw all layers should be in same direction. This will look even nicer!
Cheers,
Frank
-
Good point, Frank. I was not aware of those wood grain directions. I was satisfied with the different colours.
But the question is, where to find the single veneers of less than 0.3mm thickness. I am afraid that if I sanded this 3-ply composite to a single layer thickness it would just fall apart. It was already tricky to remove one layer...
