Hi guys,
I am just starting a Roden Albatros. The D.III engine in the kit is only ok so I am going to further detail it. What is typically done with the tube that runs down the side of the engine that contains the plug wires? Do most people use tiny tubing (what size?) or simply drill holes here and there in the kit parts?

.8mm brass tube is about correct in scale:

Thanks bo. And that engine is absolutely incredible!

Bo does it the correct way, 1/32 nd the size of the actual aircraft, but a simpler way that I use is to use a solid plastic Evergreen Styrene rod. Then I just bend the wires and glue them to the plug and the bottom of the tube with superglue. Works very well in 1/48 scale and would be more than passable in 1/32 if you are leaving the cowling closed.

Bo, what do you use for the plug wires?

Wire and insulation material from an old pair of earbuds.

Taurus makes some cool details for these engines as well, I'll be using some on the WNW Mercedes I'll be dropping into my D.III, along with the Barracuda intake pipes.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies. I just had a thought. Whoever came up with the forum for "Specific aircraft build links" had a really good idea. I would love to see something like that for articles and step-by-steps where people have super detailed the various types of engines. A good engine can really make a model.
Des, are you reading this? ;)

Surf through the Fokker DVII group build threads - plenty of good engine detailing ideas in those.
Starting with the Baron's :)

Well, thanks to the advice and encouragement received here I have detailed that Roden engine. Wow, those valve springs are really, really small!
