Color match for bavarian blue
« on: August 27, 2017, 04:36:21 PM »
Hello,

This is my first post here, I'm sorry if has been asked before.

I'm trying to replicate the Albatros D.Va from Vfw Karl Hopf from Jasta 76b as per the Lifelike decals.

So, I need a good color match or mix to the bavarian blue.

Gunze and Tamiya colors preferred.

Any recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

As a by imperialistic Bavarians oppressed Franconian I can say there's nothing like a certain "Bavarian blue". Generally the blue of the white and blue of the Bavarian coat of arms is a little lighter than the classic Prussian blue. To match the decals I'd use Gunze's H45 I think...

Hey, Borsos, being one of your imperialistic oppressors (haha!), I'd say, the blue of our coat of arms' rhombes is much lighter than Prussian Blue. I'd describe it as kind of an "intense" light blue. Can't "translate" it into Tamiya or Gunze, though.

(P.S.Franconia is a great place to spend your holidays!)

;D   As is Southern Bavaria... but please don't tell my comrades of the FRA (Frankonian Rostbratwurst Army)!

I'd use one of these - what do you think?

Yes. Both colours match a sentiment of Heimat with me...

From my point of view, the paint most probably used on the original was lightened prussian blue (was easily available), so I would go for this option.

Greenghost, I also have that lifelike sheet and needed a color match, I took the sheet with me to my local shop and Tamiya x-14 was the closest match of what he had in stock. Hope this helps!
