Mitral Valve Surgery
« on: August 27, 2017, 01:03:07 PM »
Just to let you all know we got home last night about 9pm, Surgery was completed by 11:30 on Monday, in the ICU till about 7 pm, worst part was the intubation tube that gave me a sore throat and cheek, I struggled too much when first waking up so was my own worst enemy. Then just  4 days in the cardiac recovery ward.

Best results possible in that it was only a repair of my mitral valve so no foreign stuff in the body that will require drugs for the rest of my life. No pain in heart, only pain now is the area from the incision, have not had to take anything stronger than Tylenol since Tuesday night. Six weeks of no driving , no lifting of > 5 lbs. , no wine, ( at least I'll get to model) then a two stage rehab so that in 6 mos( I expect less but...) I'll be able to play pickleball/resume all activities as before ( probably the reason for only 4 days instead of 7 to go home; nurses called me the "runner" since I was walking on Tuesday and at even 1/2 my normal pace it was a shock to them).

Again ,Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers !!!!

Ed

Ed,
I wasn`t aware that you were having surgery, best wishes for a quick and full recovery. I had a less serious bit of work done a few years back (device implant) and must admit the worst of the experience was the 6 weeks of no driving ....... although the alcohol ban ran a close second! The time in the `penalty box` will be over before you know it, relax and enjoy the reduced pace!
Cheers,
Lance

All the very best Ed, I am so pleased that the surgery went well and that you are now on the road to recovery but as the old saying goes, don't over do it.
