WingNut Wings W.12 Crane-cable lifting points
« on: June 18, 2017, 05:05:24 AM »
I recently came across a previous exchange on this topic and would like to explore it further.   There is some conjecture that the lifting points were four in number; two in the pilots cocpit, and two at the rear engine mount.
I believe that to be false.  The picture used as reference shows the aircraft in a repair or storage shed.   The Zeebrügge crane cable had one attachment to the aircraft it lowered into the water.  When the aircraft was afloat, the observer stood up and released the cable.  The "harness" attachments had to be two-points; but where ?

I'm building the aircraft to compliment my crane, and need to know; Please expound anyone.

No one out there knows ?  Hard to believe; most of you are all-knowing Englishmen! Seriously, I asked the question of WingNut Wings and Richard wasn't sure either.  Anyone at all know the crane's lifting mode for aircraft on the Zeebrügge mole?

I don't know if this is of any help, but I found this photo of a W.29, being hoisted aboard a ship.

And another one, with a Friedrichshafen FF.49

Both are showing double lifting points of the fuselage/upper wing.

Hope it helps!

Thank you for the response,KKarlsen~!

I'm almost of the opinion that a simple grapple was affixed at either upper wing side with a length of cable between, center gravity, and the crane hook slid under.  It must have been detachable in that no photo evidence indicates it was bolted down or otherwise permanently attached to the upper wing.

I've tried to attach pics of my crane to further illustrate my serious effort in this discussion.
