Spin Bristol M.1C
« on: June 17, 2017, 12:57:58 AM »
I'd been looking for a BM Bristol M.1C for a while and the Spin model came up on eBay for $19.95.  Its not a bad resin kit except for the wicker seat and engine castings which I replaced with better castings.  The PE U/C legs were made thicker by adding Evergreen HO 1" x 6" and then rounding the edges.  The PE cockpit framing was made thicker with HO 2" x 3" plastic too.  Still rigging with ceramic wire.   Painting is a model RR freight car brown for the PC12 and Pactra Sky Blue for the undersides.

Will get back to the W.12 after this is finished.

Very nice model, Charlie, from the wheels to the wingtip! I specially like your choice for the colors.

Oh Charlie, nice result!
I have that kit in my stash too, one day I will start it. Any pitfalls?

Cheers,
Frank

Frank,
I added several small pieces of HO 2" x 12" along the inside of the fuselage on the top so when I joined the two halves the plastic pushed the resin up to mate up better.  The resin engine is terrible so I replaced with an Aeroclub I had.  The wicker seat to is a poor casting and I replaced with a much better casting.   For a kit made in 1999 it's pretty impressive as the wings are thin.  Decals too are nicely done and very thin.  The kit's MG isn't bad but if I find a better one I'll replace it since it shows up so well.

Thanks! As new engine I can use one from Small Stuff.

Gaspatch makes a couple of Vickers MG in 1/48  French version and a British Hyland type E.  Would the type E be on the M.1C?

Top work. I mostly like the underside, the blue looks great.

Hm, I checked the Windsock Datafile 52, but I haven't found much information about the Vickers.
There were two mount positions, at first upper left and later in the middle. I think for detection of the type you will need to see the end of the Vickers, but there are no pictures known form the cockpit with a visible weapon.

But very clear visible on the pictures are the cooling openings of the gun on the rear of the Vickers.
For my Sopwith Pup I soldered a Vickers from a PE set of "Part" and there are 3 variants for the cooling jacket in the kit, so I would use part 13 (openings at the rear) here for the Bristol:

But a Gaspatch is a lot easier ;)

Frank

That is a super model in every way. Built quickly too but to a very high standard indeed. Thanks for showing.

Stephen, that is not my model! It was just a discussion with Charlie about options for the Vickers of _his_ Bristol M1C. My kit is not quickly built - it is untouched ;)

Cheers,
Frank
