Finally the RFC Squadron project has crossed the finish line. As some of you may know, it's been in the 'pipeline' for quite some time. It all started out with the attempt to scratch build a RFC Crossley tender and trailer. If that hadn't succeeded, I do not think this project would ever have seen the light of day! The project stalled after the Crossley, but the plan was always to go back and do some more S.e.5a's, enough to have the impression of a RFC Squadron in a diorama.

The diorama is a depiction of a day in the No. 74 Squadron based at Clairmarais, France 1918. The pilots of No 74 Squadron have just returned from a successful patrol.  On 30. July 1918, 'taffy' Jones brought down three German planes, a Rumpler C and a LVG C around noon and a Fokker D VII at 17:50 in the evening. The Squadron Commander Keith Caldwell, also brought down a Fokker D VII on this day...

The three planes are the ones of Squadron Commander Keith 'Grid' Caldwell NZ, (D6864), James Ira 'Taffy' Jones C1117 'T' GB and of Frederick Stanley 'Freddie' Gordon NZ, D3438 'Z' - The last one without the wings, is done as C6459 'C'. It could have been the one flown by Sydney 'Timbertoes' Carlin, but I have not been able to confirm this.

So, this is it, hope you like the end result...

Perfect work.
It is unbelievable that this jewel took only 2 and a half month.
The planes are so careful build and painted,
the base looks just right, especially the path,
the figures are arranged very interesting and painted masterful
the whole dio is just...perfect.
Thank you for showing.

Thanks, yes the grass wasn't the easiest part, but its the first time I've tried getting the 'green' right. Maybe next time?

I did some close-up photos as well...

This is a spectacular diorama and a breathtaking example of the best in WW1 modelling. I keep returning to your photos and finding new details every time. The highest praise possible goes to you. For me personally, this is my favourite entry in the WW1 diorama group build. I'm in awe of your work.

Kent, I have sent you numerous emails and PM's requesting your mailing address so I can arrange to have your prizes sent to you but for some reason you have not replied, I also sent you the $50AU which was part of the prize but you have not accepted it on Paypal. If any forum member knows Kent and can contact him please let him know there are prizes waiting for him.
