Before I pop some pics up on the 'Finished' thread I guess I ought to finish this one off with the base.

As usual it's on the ever diminishing supply of Fire Retardant MDF (hence the pinkish colour) with the base made as for the Nieuport.
A surround of 3mm square balsa tacked to masking tape, back filled with Poly Filla first then once  set covered randomly with PVA glue before spreading various grit sizes into the glue. Spray painted with acrylics then darkening oil washes before a dry brushing of the highlights. The grass tufts, though having a self adhesive backing, are stuck in place with PVA. Possibly a tad overscale the tufts average 4mm high which would  make them about 4-5" in full size - "The grass needs cutting Sergeant"

The stones seem out of character with an airfield but studying the images some of the fields were very stony indeed but they just add another dimension to the base.

The tufts used were these - highly recommended (with the usual disclaimer)

Evening meal calls - I'll pop the finished pics up later.

That's it for this one folks - thanks for looking in

Regards - Tug
