I don't know if building the engine makes you a 1/48th Modeler but it sure does show that your skills suffer no loss moving down in scale!

Beautiful job of the engine, Des!  As Rick mentioned, the smaller scale is certainly
not affecting your model-building!  Looking forward to the next updates, my friend.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

I wholly agree with Ian that this would make an excellent subject to scratch build in God's Own Scale. However in the meantime we can all sit and enjoy the master 1/48 scale builder in action - and what a tremendous start he has made. Des this should be right up your street - unconventional in every respect.

But it will be another mini-masterpiece even if you do not have to make the majority of the parts.

Stephen.

I would like to thank everyone who have left very nice comments regarding my build, all your kind words are very much appreciated. I have had a few more home renovations happening the last few days so model building has been put on the back burner, work will recommence soon.

The work on the engine shows both your skill and the quality of the CSM kit !!!!

Thanks Ed and Ermeio for your very kind comments.

I cleaned up the fuselage parts and roughly fitted them together to gauge the accuracy of fit. Obviously more cleaning is required but the fit appears to be quite good, the fuselage parts are not warped at all and have reasonable detail. I will do the fuselage internal detailing next but finding information on the cockpit and gunner/observer stations is near impossible.

Des.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I will be building this model virtually OOB, there will only be minimal alterations/modifications/detailing.

Minimal detailing or not, this is going to be well worth following, especially at this is now on my list of future projects. In the front row and watching intensively.

Thanks guys for looking in and leaving your very kind comments.

I have started detailing the inside of the fuselage. Some of the bulkheads are supplied with the kit but I will need to scratch a few more. The linen colour is painted using Gunze off-white while the darker colour is Gunze black-grey. The fuselage bracing wires are Modelkasten elastic rigging thread. The engine is only sitting in position for photo purposes. I still need to add the pilots seat, front and rear gunner seats, instrument panel, control column and rudder bar, also the throttle quadrant.

Very nice work on the interior, Des.  Did you do the side framing yourself,
or was that part of the kit?  In any event, it looks excellent, along with the
Modelkasten thread.  Good progress, my friend!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thanks Boggie and Ernie, your comments are very much appreciated.

Ernie, some the fuselage framing is part of the kit while some of it has been added by me.
