Many thanks for your support, Rick, Des, Toby, Juan and Bud! It is highly appreciated.

Today I removed the masks and gave the ribs a bit of wet sanding with 1500 sandpaper. Of course there are several spots requiring a touch up. All in all, for the first attempt I am quite satisfied with the result.

Cheers

Not sure how you show a giant hand with that 1/32 kit (LOL  :o).  Great job at any scale, but particularly in 1/144

I don't know what I admire more: Your abilities to model such wonderful jewels from scratch or your patience and the time you invest in such small models. Wonderful, and a great model, no matter what scale.

Fantastic work, Ondra :) I've just finished rigging my 1/72 models, and I had quite a struggle in some areas... but my models seem huge compared to this one!

Many thanks for your support, Juan, Borsos and Jeroen, it is highly appreciated!

The ribs on the upper surfaces did not work out well, unfortunately. Therefore I have to give them a second try. While removing the masking tape, a few ribs and half-ribs on the leading edge simply peeled off, but I reckon I know where I went wrong. I diluted the surfacer with the blue thinner, instead of the yellow levelling thinner. I guess the primer dried way too fast to bond to the surface and rather stuck to the masking tape. Nevermind, the slow and steady wins the race, right? :)

The good news is that I am getting better in applying the mask with the practice, so it took me just this weekend to get ready for the second round.

As masking is really rather demanding for the eyes, I had to take a few breaks, during which I assembled the exhaust pipes with the cylinder heads and made a dry fit test. Looks quite satisfactory, the whole fuselage will have to get a slight sanding. Learning for the next build - creating ribs will be one of the first steps, as the dust from the surfacer sticks to surrounding surfaces.

Cheers

Many thanks for your support, Rick and Des!

This is the result of the second attempt on the ribs on upper surfaces, sanded down and ailerons scribing added (will need a slight touch up).

Looks satisfactory to me, the trick really was thinning the surfacer with levelling thinner.

You are certainly solving your various problems with skill and ingenuity Ondra. This is gong to be a first class model when finished.

Many thanks for following the build and leaving such nice comment, Bud, Stephen and Rick!

This weekend I was preparing my S.E.5a for painting, meaning I added a few details to the upper wing. All parts got a few coats of zinc white by Drooling Bulldog and were left to cure properly until the next weekend.

I also had to rethink the way I would like to fasten the Aldis sight to the fuselage. On the photo the sight is just resting on the top of the fuselage. I think it will be a nice detail. :)

Unfortunately Photobucket does not seem very cooperative today, therefore I have to post the photo in a separate post.

Cheers
