WingNut Wings 1:32 Sopwith Snipe
« on: March 08, 2016, 08:26:34 AM »
Hi all,
It’s been awhile since I last posted a completed model, mainly due to the disruption from a house extension and sorting out my ‘man cave’.
Anyway, continuing with my growing collection of WW1 aircraft, here’s the latest. It represents the Sopwith Snipe, Serial No: E8069, of ‘B’ Flight, No.4 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps (AFC) in 1918.  It was flown by 2nd Lieutenant Thomas Charles Richmond Baker (12 victories), DFC, MM and bar. He was shot down and killed on the 4th of November 1918, aged 21, just a matter of days before the end of the war.  In February 1919, he was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
•   Manufacturer:  Wingnut Wings.
•   Scale: 1/32
•   Type: Sopwith Snipe (early)
•   Paints/Weathering:  Tamiya (by brush and Airbrushed), Flory clay washes and AK weathering washes.
•   Aftermarket: HGW seat belts, Master guns, figures from Kellerkind and Wings cockpit figures, propeller (hand made by Doug Craner), ground accessories from Historex and ground cover from Scenic grass mats (plus stones from my garden).
•   Rigging:  Adjusters for all flying wires (not turnbuckles - made from micro nickel/silver tube and RB motion nuts) with monofilament for the wires (coloured with silver ink pen).  All control wires at the tail were micro-tube with GasPatch turnbuckles.
•   Scratch built:  Supports for the guns boresight.
•   Display case and plaque made by on-line specialists.
My next build will be the Wingnut Wings 1:32 scale Roland C.IIa ‘Walfisch’ (late version).

"Sandbagger",
I'll be the first to comment on this absolutely extraordinary Build, just superb! I'm particularly overwhelmed by your detail work, the photo of the tailskid and elevator/rudder flight control wires and connections just dazzles me! Your paint, weathering, details, and overall finish make this the best Snipe I've seen.( and there are a lot of very good ones to be seen here!) Although I'm not a figure artist I've seen enough to know these are very good as well.
Congratulations on such a very fine model, and Thanks for sharing it here.
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks very much for sharing this wonderful model with us, the overall finish on this model is superb, the added details are excellent and the figures certainly add that finishing touch to a fantastic scene, very well done.

I can only echo the previous comments.  Well done!

That's a wonderful build in every respect - from the grass up!

Your weathering sets the seal on it.

Hi all,
Many thanks for your generous comments.  I appreciate them given the quality of the work displayed by this forums members.
The Snipe was my sixth Wingnut Wings model and as I said previously, I'm now working on the Roland C.IIa 'Walfisch (late version).  It's my first two seater model and once completed will leave me with 32 WNW models in my stash, including the mighty Gotha, Felixstowe and AEG models - display will rapidly become problematic  :o
