ailments x3
« on: November 10, 2015, 02:58:23 PM »
yea its been rough physically for me lately. i started doing electrician work in a pre fab shop as well as waiting tables which i have been doin. the physical strain has been enormous for someone as out of shape as me. so its been taking a toll on my in general as far as exhaustion as well as putting strain on my hands, i have been experiencing numbness in both hands when in use,its really bad if i try to write or such. i havent done much if any modelling in months.it hurts too much.

ailment 2 is a boil on the inside of my left bicep which has now turned into a staph infection.i assume i got it from carrying heavy equipment up the 7 flights of stairs while sweating and my inner arm abraded against my body. the dark redness is 2x 3 inches and its a good 1/4" high. i have to wear waterproof bandages to work to keep it clean but the glue is so intense when i remove the bandages daily it usually removes bits of skin so now theres also scabbing surrounding the wee staph monster.

#3 i assume from the intense sweating and me wiping my face on my dirty shirt sleeves i have developed conjunctivitis.especially in my left eye in which the lower lid has swollen a bit. both eyes ooze constantly and feel itchy and gritty.

its been rough with all 3 at the same time.and i am a little iritated that i dont have health insurance so i cant easily take care of any of it without shelling out hundreds for the 3 specialists who would prescribe unaffordable medicine. uugghhh.

sucks getting old.

I feel for you Scott, I hope you manage to get on top of all 3 issues pretty quickly, Staph infections can be very nasty if left to fester. Take care Scott and hope to see you back at your model bench soon.

Des.

Yes, it is a real bummer getting old but as they say, it is better than the alternative  :)

Scott.

I feel for you Mate, I thought my medical woes were bad till I read that.

I've had eye issues lately and mine turned out to be blocked glands in the edges of the lids, apparently they ooze grease into your eyes to keep them lubed up. Its called Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.
Try laying a flannel soaked in hot water over your closed eyes for a few mins (while laying down and chilling natuarally) then press as hard as is comfortable upon the edge of each eyelid in turn and run your finger from the inner corner to the outer of each in turn against your eye with them closed of course. This softens and expresses the blockages. Do this for a few days 2 times a day it may help and costs nothing. Apparently 30% of the worlds population have this problem
Kind of like blackheads in a way.

Here in the UK we moan about our NHS but at least it's there when we who can't affofd private health care can fall back on it.

Hi Scott.  I'm sorry I don't have any "grandma's cures" for you but
wanted to send my best wishes for an ASAP recovery and you are
right about getting old...it tends to suck alright.  Hang in there, my friend. :D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Bummer, man!  But you are not old, Scott.  In fact, you're one of the youngsters among us.  Just hang in there, buddy, get as much rest as you can, drink lots of water and load up on vitamin C.  Keith's hot compress idea is also highly recommended.
Cheers,
Bud

Hi Scott,

What can I say, as a good improvement. I'm just a little older than you, but believe me, you'll be fine. One of these routes in life, through which you must pass.

Kindly regards

Scott, so sorry to hear of your triple ailments. Your first ailment with the numbness in your hands sounds like a condition I have called Spinal Stenosis. It's a swelling of the nerve canal in the spinal column which causes pain in the upper arms and numbness in the hands. My treatment has consisted of wearing a neck brace to restrict movement of my spine to allow the swelling to go down. I also had steroid treatments and neck traction. I'm feeling better now but it's a slow process that took about a year to recover from.
I don't know if this is what is going on with you, but your symptoms seem similar. It might be worth looking into. The internet has some good info on it.

Feel better!
George

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I understand the pain of the first problem and wish I could give a good suggestion on curing it. I have found that soaking in a hot bath helps some and I use a heating pad on my neck which also helps. I hope things work out for you.

Here's hoping that your health improves quickly. It sounds to me as though you are physically run down (as you suggest yourself) which means that the immune system weakens and much else which is undesirable follows. Certainly try the suggested cures but also rest and if possible relax as much as possible too - it all helps. If you can try to take light physical exercise and look at your diet to see if you can sensibly lose weight - more fruit and vegetables and less fast food. I know that preparing food takes longer, especially when one is tired and run down, but the effects are beneficial and real given time. I used to come home from work totally worn out (physically and mentally), but I always cooked a meal in the evenings from fresh ingredients: it is not as difficult as you might think.

Thinking of you and wishing you a complete recovery sooner rather than later

definitely good advice. run down for sure. i am out of shape but not horribly so.47 yrs old 225 lbs(102kg)  at 5'11'' (1.8m) i dont drink or smoke and i dont eat junk food/fast food. by this i mean i dont eat fast food chain food, hamburgers, tacos, pizza etc.i dont always cook but an average day consists of breakfast-whole grain granola type breakfast bar or oatmeal bar with homemade cold brewed coffee sweetened with stevia .lunch 1 turkey and cheese sandwich on wheat bread with pretzels and another granola/oatmeal bar. dinner varies from cooking a simple meal to picking up pre-cooked deli food from whole foods grocery such as grilled chicken or smoked meat with a veggie such as brocolli or zuccini medley with roasted potatoes or a light pasta like fetticini tossed in olive oil tomatoes and yellow peppers.sometimes i do eat frozen dinners but i try to select those which are low fat, sodium and carbs. sometimes i will have a bowl of cold cereal for dinner no kiddie sugary stuff only multi grain/whole grain type cereal with cashew milk. i used to drink soy because i have milk issues but i like cashew milk alot now.i should exercise but have preferred inside sports like guitar and ww1 aircraft models.

there is some news on the home front. my sister has a regular doctor and had him call in some drops for my eyes. i will continue treating the staph infection with the black icthammol salve.

as for the numbness george is close if not correct. i could be stenosis although truthfully that had not crossed my mind. i was thinking more toward a ruptured disc putting pressure or abrading my spinal cord or impinged nerve roots as it exits the spine. i had the former which caused similar symptons 15 years ago. i had an anterior cervical fusion surgery which corrected the issue. i have a plate and 4 crews holding my neck vertebrae together. perhaps something has gone wrong with the old surgery which removed the disc to relieve a 4mm indentation into my spinal cord.

My neurosurgeon who has been treating my spinal stenosis has talked to me about the same surgery with the plate and four screws joining two of my vertebrae together. I'm hoping the other treatments keep it under control and I don't have to resort to surgery.

Scott,
I'm so sorry to hear of this with you. I empathize with your hand issues, as I suffer the same thing. In fact, it's to the point that there are certain types of employment, which I know I could do, but don't bother applying for because of my hands.
As others have said, you've gotten yourself into a perfect storm friend. I'll be sure and keep you in my prayers.

I read this now, Scott
you have all my solidarity;: get back in shape soon.
I had a long period of hands's dumbness some months ago, but now it seems that I recovered and probably it was due to the fact that was using my portable laptop on a daily basis with some uncorrect position.
I'm still unable to write for long periods on a PC, but the situation is much better.
So take care and get back soon!
