Eduard Spad XIII with converted Ford T Ambulance
« on: February 12, 2015, 07:59:22 AM »
As I had announced I would like to share with you my WIP of an Eduard Spad XIII in scale 1:48.
The goal is a model in the colors of the 94th Aero Squadron in Koblenz 1919 after the armistice. In addition, an Hucks Starter and some figures will be arranged together on a small diorama.

I used the Eduard Spad XIII Dual Combo, Kit No. 1142.

A helpfull review you will find with the next link of my friend Jean Luc Formery.

The details are fantastic and very fine. It makes a great joy to build this well thought out kit. At least until now... :)

The wooden structure is painted with oil colours. Meanwhile, a well-known technique and used by many modellers.

For a variety, in the meantime I've started with the conversion of the Ford Model T Ambulance. With the introduction of that kit by RPM I bought both versions. 10 Euro per kit was very tempting.  ;)

And again a useful review by Jean Luc Formery

Because the chassis is too short (I compared the vehicles of the Shuttleworth Collection) it was extended about 2 cm.

The body had to be rebuilt. Thank god it is a very simple construction, so it is not a magical task .

For now I paint the Hucks Starter and assemble the fuselage halfs of my Spad. Next pictures are following soon.

Regards
Dirk

I somehow missed this one. Terrific start on the SPAD. Your interior is Awesome! The ambulance conversion will certainly add to the presentation and looks terrific so far!

Great start on the Spad, Dirk; the wood work and cockpit details look terrific.  You seem to be handling the Huck conversion with ease!

You have done a great job so far with your Huck starter conversion, I did the same thing but in 1:32 scale using an old Pyro kit of a Model T pie wagon, here is the link if you are interested, may give you a few ideas but from what you have already done you don't need any help  :)

Hi Des,
your Huck Starter looks absolutely great. The whole model have so many nice details. And the chain is mind blowing.  In scale 48 I couldn`t find no proper chain. And many details clearly visible at your model are not reproducible too. That`s very sad!  :-[
Some of your Walkaround pictures I`ve never seen before! Many thanks for sharing your Topic with me.
Things are going well and the basic paintjob is mostly done.
Here are some pictures of the real one I`ve selected as a painting guide.

Meanwhile, I have finished the Huck Starter, converted from the RPM model.
The pictures turned out not so good, so I'm going to do better next time!
The RPM kit has really nice details, so I can highly recommend it.

Your Huck starter turned out beautiful Dirk, you have added excellent detail to the vehicle and the addition of the accessories in the tray is a great finishing touch.
