You are moving right along, Des.  Dandy job!  The styrene strips on the cockpit framing
works very well.  I think this kit would be a challenge, but you make it look so easy.
I'm enjoying following your build.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Just catching up.

Looking good... as always from such a skilled modeler like you.

I enjoy the wood tone in the interior very much. There's no easy way in those Omega models Kit.

Cheers

I discarded the kit supplied PE upper rigging mast and made my own from brass tube, it ended up being a lot stronger and more to scale, I still need to finish off the top of the mast to take the rigging wires. I also added the frame on the side of the fuselage for the access panel, this was made from very thin styrene sheet. The engine cowl fitted quite well needing only a small amount of filler and sanding, the engine still fits quite easily.

Good idea, replacing the rigging mast with brass, Des.  Did you solder the pieces
together, of use CA?  Brilliant work!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Because the brass tube was drilled and the mating parts were a nice slide fit CA holds them together very well. Where the mast fits into the fuselage I made it a tight fit, it slides into the fuselage about 3mm, with CA it becomes a very rigid assembly.

I'm afraid that this kit is going to fight me all the way, nothing is the correct size, nothing fits, half the kit so far has been binned and new parts made, this is a pigs ear that will remain a pigs ear, no silk purse from this kit. This may end up being the first kit in my life that I will bin, it is really really bad..... :-\ :-\

Just a small update. The front part of the plane has been painted with Humbrol No.56 Aluminium, this is just a guess as the instructions give no colour reference. The machine gun is fitted, it is positioned to fire over the arc of the propeller, the wood access panel has been added and the tail plane is also fitted, the rudder is only sitting loose for the photo. The wheels are from John vojtech at Scale Spokes, yet to be painted. I will battle on for a few more days before deciding what to do with this horror of a kit (and expensive).

Gee I don't know Des.  You may be having a terrible time but to my
uneducated eye it looks really good.  I didn't realise that the Omega kits were
so tough. Thank goodness you do have the skills to win the battle.
Whether it is worth it is up to you.  Interesting situation.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Like Bo I would advise to continue Des. You made a wonderful progress up to now, and with your skills I think you wil succeed in finishing it. Bin the box but keep the plane. I'm really very sorry for you. Much courage on this one and good luck.

Kind regards
Patrick

It's like my experience with Omega kits. But they cover models of planes that nobody else does. Seeing what you have already achieved with the interior and the fuselage I am convinced that you are going forward in producing an oustanding model. As I said before: you will need your scratch building skills for improvement or replacement of parts and in the end you might wonder what is still left from the original kit. My guess would be about 70% will be yours and 30% theirs. Not exactly what you should expect from a kit with this price.

I have similar experiences in building wooden kits for model traditional fishing craft. I remember buying a kit for a dutch Botter from a Spanish firm. In the end I just used the keel and the main girders and the rest was replaced by other parts. There is still a large number of Botters around in the Netherlands and a lot of documentation, so I made a number of walkarounds and found the differences which were substantial.

regards,
Ivo
